Replacement head units . . . best options?
I'd like to be able to play burned CDs and the stock unit doesn't seem to be up to the task. Do you have any recommendations on units that will fit the TL's rather large slot (presumably units which could play both tapes and CD's)?
So far the best idea I heard was to get the stock unit from a 2000-2003, supposed to be more frequently compatible with burned CD's.
Finally, I'm partial to Pioneer so if any one has pioneer replacement recommendations that'd be great =)
thanks again for all the help!

why can't you guys play burnt CDs in the stock deck for the 1st gen TLs? My unit plays them...even the CD changer takes them. Am I missing something? It's on a 97 2.5TL.

As far as a deck goes...
I would recommend the Pioneer Premier DEH-P860MP.... it plays MP3's WMA's CD-R's and has a boat load of equalizer options and great functgion that come with it.... i even believe u could hook up a CD changer if u wanted... this is the deck im looking into buying and ive heard nothing but rave reviews about its performance + it has that ATT feature for when the popo's are creeping. You can also add your own screensavers and pictures and even a video if u wanted to by uploading it into the deck... pioneer provides the software for all of this on its website. let me c if i can find a link...http://pioneerelectronics.com/pna/pr...496601,00.html
get it staright from the source ...hope this helps a lil

For the space, its a double DIN (someone correct me, I may be wrong) headunit in the stock opening, and typically what you would do would be to get a single DIN headunit, and then a pocket to put below it. I'm not sure if it will fit with the way the trim is though

TL no more!
Hmmm...interesting. Mine plays all the burnt CD's I made dated back to 1999. But I will eventually get a new HU...eventually. I'm looking toward the Kenwood line or the Pioneer line because I've had great experience with either. I might even look at some Alpine models.

everything you said is correct.
you should give a price of how much your willing to spend before you ask for recommendations because there is a wide range of options

My HU also plays all the CD-R's i've ever made. It even played an old one that i accidentally stepped on and had a crack all the way through half of it. I just put some superglue on the inside to help hold it and it never misses a beat.
As far as a new HU, i am also in the hunt. I will be going either Alpine or Eclipse.
