Fan Broken - Seeking Advice
Fan Broken - Seeking Advice
I own a 1996 Acura TL 3.2 with 162k.
The left fan behind the radiator (the one linked to the air conditioning) reverberates back and forth when spinning and makes a hell of a noise. I visited the local mechanic, and I was told they think the reverberations are a result of a broken bearing found inside the fan motor. This I believe, but the following I don’t. They claimed that if didn't fix the fan (i.e. replace the motor with the new bearings) the fan would come off and puncture the radiator.
I find the above scenario very unlikely, but wanted to get everyone’s opinion on what to do. Despite the noise, is this fix really necessary at this point in time. Also, if I keep the AC off, the fan does not spin and problems solved, right? If I didn’t have to drop the $200 for the new fan, I probably would just do it, but hey, I’m a poor college student!
Thanks in advance for your opinions and advice.
Regards
