Diffential Removal

I need help in removing my differential. I got the trans axle out both sides, got all the bolt out. The differential is open from the engine block about 1inch but still not dropping. Is it because of the connecting shaft from the tranny holding the differential to drop?

Did you remove the sealing bolt? It's the flat disc with a square opening. You can use a 3/8 ratchet to turn it, IIRC. I got it out without doing that, but it's much easier and the proper way to do it by removing that and the shaft with a special tool from Honda.

It's on the transmission bell housing, right where it's stuck for you.

If you don't have an Acura Shop Manual, you are aksing for problems/damage.

Shop manual indicates the sealing bolt and extension shaft must be removed.

VSS/Power Steering speed sensor must also be removed.

Get a manual!

good luck

The sealing bolt is the first bolt i removed. I think thge shaft is engaged with the differential. THe differential is hanging already. All the DOWEL pIN is off too so it should drop. Maybe it just need a snug........

That shaft is what needs to be removed, but try a pry bar and wedging it where the P shaped washer was. Make sure the diff is straight against the motor while doing this so you don't bend anything.

you need to pull the output shaft on the tranny out a few winches before the diff will come loose.

remove the sealing plate (where the 1/2 socket fits into is the sealing plate) it unscrews counter clockwise. I'm not sure how you're gonna do that with the axles disconnected. after you remove the sealing plate, there is a threaded hole that you can put a 12 or 14mm bolt (i forgot the size) into it, throw a big flat washer (a washer the size of your shock mount ones) onto the bolt and screw the bolt in. with the end sticking out. using the washer for leverage, pry outwards and the shaft will pull out towards the back of the car. you only need to have it come out a few inches and the diff will come out.
