TPMS Strange Behaivor

Hello All,

New here, my daughter is the RDX owner (2010 w/AWD no tech package) and I"m trying to help her out as she is located over 1000 miles away. She said her TPMS light started coming on but all her tire presures are fine. The status screen reports different tires as it seems to redomly move from tire to tire. Did a search on TPMS and didn't see anything about this symptom? Ideas? Thoughts? Thanks in advance.

I should add .... nothing has been done to the wheels/tires. OEM rims and I assume the original TPMS senors, tires are less than a year old and all has been working fine for the past 6 months (when the new tires were installed),

Did you recently have the tires rotated?

Also, maybe check the TPMS fuse...the way you're describing it, it doesn't seem like a sensor is going out.

That's the way it was descriped to me but .... 22 year girl describing it (her boyfriend is helping). I thought I read if the fuse was out nothing would show on the dash?

If it was broken, sure. But I wonder if it's maybe it's loose or the fuse itself has issues. It's a super cheap and easy replacement, so if it were me I'd start there. Replacing a TPMS sensor isn't super expensive, but kind of a hassle because you have to have a tire shop remove / remount the tire. Figure maybe 50-ish for the sensor and another 20 to re-mount.

From what I understand the TPMS sensors also have receivers in each wheel well that identify what corners the sensors are on (someone correct me if the 1st gen RDX isn't set up that way...I think pretty much any modern Acura is though). So again if you have issues that seem to be jumping from tire to tire, it could be related to that.

There is another thread "Tire Pressure Question ", which is about Same problem caused by an iphone charger interfering with the TPMS, two guys said the warning goes off after the charger was unplugged.

Hey, my wife's RDX is having the same issue. Did the charger have something to do with disrupting the system?

Ultimately, has the issue been resolved? I'm kinda at the starting point, myself.

Mine will show an alert 20 to 30 mins into a drive. All tires fine. no leaks pressure good all round.

Wish I could dump the whole system.

I have a 2008 (over 7 years old now). I am getting a TPMS error too.

I'm thinking the batteries are just dead. Once it got colder, the two back wheels stopped transmitting.

Not sure how to fix this - I don't want to buy/swap new sensors for no reason.

^TPMS batteries are only good for 5-7 years. Then it's time to buy new ones.

I would like to know this before, I got mounted a new set of tires a month ago on my 2007, Hope the TPMS keeps working at least for a few more months, it will be a hassle to dismount all tires to replace the batteries, any idea about the battery size?

Batteries are not usually replaceable on TPMS sensors - usually just have to buy new sensors. They run around 40 bucks a pop, give or take. Most places will install them for the price of mounting a tire...so yeah, plan on around 200 to replace all 4. That said there's no reason to replace them all if only one is out. Some batteries die in 5 years, some take 10, and you don't save any money by replacing them as a group vs. 1 at a time when they die.

Thanks Tom, I guess the Sensors should be purchased thru an Acura Dealer or online, it makes a lot of sense to replace just the one out, the next Acura Dealer is 200 mi away, so I am thinking on ordering a couple online and keep them in spare, my advantage is the labor is cheap here, I paid less than $100 US for the tire mounting, balancing, alignment and nitrogen, plus The RDX will get free balancing and alignment checking every 10,000 km. Just the mounting and balancing would be half of that.

According to the info I found on other thread mentioned above, the Battery Charging System from the iphone is capable of sned a signal when charging, and this signal is picked by the TPMS, leading to the missfunction or warning signal, at least 2 owners solved this by simply unplugging the charger.

^WTF? I've heard they cause planes to crash too.
Even if this were true the iPhone charger would need to be inside the wheel well right next to the sensor. Otherwise that iPhone charger is putting out some massive EMF/RFI numbers

PURE BULLSHIT!

Can't tell if this is true of not, I had not any problem with the TPMS, the info came from another thread in this community; not knowing where the signal pick up unit is, it is possible it could be inside the car, by the dash or even close to the 12V plug? All I know is what I'd read; I didn't even knew the meaning of BCS ( battery charging system ) which I should research for.

I just typed out a lengthy explanation and example of something similar ( Dead Distributor ) that happened to me, but alas it was lost to a dead router in a power outage due to the storm on our coastline.

It's just a coincidence. There is no connection between an iPhone charger and bad TPMS readings.

How did those sensors work for U? Did U buy OEM or after market? I just put new DORMAN Part # 974049 TPMS in a new set of rims and i am getting an TPMS message stating to Check TPMS System. My diagnostic info messages state i have code 32-38 Tire Pressure Monitoring System Error (one for each sensor). Each new sensor is broadcasting at 315mz, battery full and has its own ID # however when we tried to upload that new info thru a snap on diagnostic tool into the RDX system it failed to upload. Did U have any issues with UR new sensors? Is there a way to reset the TPMS System or do i have to have Acura scan the new TMPS sensors ID#s and upload that data into the system?

I found my answer...
Procedure X – Honda & Acura
Tools Required: HDS (Honda Diagnostic System) scan tool
The TPMS sensors are able to be programmed by either of the two
following methods.
A. Memorize Sensor ID Automatically
 This procedure must be performed at least 12 ft away from any other vehicle
equipped tire pressure sensors.
 All sensor IDs will be memorized automatically when vehicle is driven for at least 40
seconds at a minimum speed of 15 mph.
 Verify that all 4 tire indicators come on by reducing pressure in all 4 tires to below
than the vehicle specification.
 Inflate tires to vehicle specification.

B. Memorize Sensor ID with HDS (Honda Diagnostic System) scan tool
 This procedure must be performed at least 12 ft away from any other vehicle
equipped tire pressure sensors.
 Turn ignition off and connect scan tool to vehicle data link connector.
 Turn ignition switch on and memorize sensor ID by following screen prompts on scan
tool.
 Verify that all 4 tire indicators come on by reducing pressure in all 4 tires to below
than vehicle specification.
 Inflate tires to vehicle specification.
