Parasitic Draw also? Or is it my dashcam?
Parasitic Draw also? Or is it my dashcam?
Came here as my 2010 RDX with 130k kms (80k miles est) didn't want to start.
I suspect it's the newly installed dashcam (installed 1 month ago) AND car sitting for >1 wk unusued.
As I charge the battery up right now (and am at home sitting on my computer waiting for time to pass), just wanted to see if I am "attacking" the problem correctly based on the symptoms:
a) literally when I turn the key, not even a sound, a click, nothing - only the brake light engaged sign lights up and then dashboard light (and the light dies slowly after).
b) VIOFO dashcam: I don't remove it from the lighter socket (I presume this is the culprit? - the manual did say it will not draw power - but I don't know if our RDX lighter socket does draw power even if engine is off)
c) I read other posts here indicating it could also be the bluetooth - but that is what I'll "attack" AFTER I make sure it IS the lighter socket drawing power from the battery
Please let me know if you think it's any other problem: eg starter, alternator etc... The engine does not even crank FWIW. Literally nothing save for some lights turning on.
Many thanks for your thoughts.

I doubt it is the dashcam, but if you are worried there are harnesses available that plug in-line with the rear view mirror wiring (assuming you have auto-dimming mirror). It's a cleaner install and there is no power supplied when the car is not on, so no way for the camera to drain the battery.
After 6 months or so, it's a dashcam or lighter socket fluke and/or the battery -- I replaced the battery and it seemed like Kirkland battery has "deteriorated" in quality (or kirkland battery i got was a fluke)-- meaning: if the dashcam was indeed draining power, either the battery sucked (eg Kirkland) or this new battery from the CAA is better... how do i know this? well, i forgot to unplug the dashcam again for a week and this time, car started easily... FYI kirkland battery was only 1 yr old when it didnt want to start in the middle of summer last year...
PS I won't muck around with the bluetooth system for now, even if i don't actually use it at all...
