Found the noise

This car has made this noise intermittently since I bought it and she finally made it in the driveway and I was able to get under the dash and locate it.

Is this the Air mix motor? I found a sheet on possibly being able to lubricate the parts causing the friction.

It *seems* like it. To confirm, since it looks like whatever is trying to move is not going a good job of it, can you manually switch the air between feet and face, and vary the temp between driver and passenger, and see if the flow matches the setting? If not, then you're likely on the right track. I can't speak to the lubrication part, but there are a number of threads on here about the air mix motor. Try searching by that term and you'll likely find some options.

If I unplug it (green connector) it stops. Problem with that is that the AC is uneven. I’m going to tear into it tomorrow and post the findings.

Update: pulled the mix motor and lubed all the plastic to plastic surfaces. Reassembled, checked for range of motion And everything is moving as it should. The noise has disappeared for now.

Nice! Glad to hear it was serviceable (at least for the short term) vs needing to replace.

I recommend to remove and clean the track as is must be very dirty to be stuck that way, now with the lube the traack it will wear out faster, remove the gas pedal, unplug and remove the 2 screws I believe, unplug the motor and remove the small screws, clean and use the proper lube (i use dielectric grease) I notiec in some years the small screws are torx and on others are Philips

I find the less I use my air system the more noise it makes almost like it ceases if it’s not used enough.

Now that the weather is turning and the mornings are cool, I’ve discovered I have no heat. I disconnected and reconnected the plug to the air mix motor and cycled the temp control and was able to get it working for a day but that was it. I ordered another mix motor just now so hopefully that works. Does anyone know if this motor has a fuse or operates off of a relay? Probably need to check there first but didn’t have the time to fool with it this week.
