Maybe you should have tried shoe horning in the volvo 4.4 v8 built by yamaha. It is narrow and set up for transverse layouts.

I hear ya, I will be inform the builder what I'm going for or/ what my setup will be. I would assume, a bulletproof block and a moderate/good flowing head should do the trick.

What the head?

4 Piston asked me to give them some time if I wanted the "head build" to be consider. I told them no rush, and to take all the time they needed. I'm sure they are laughing at me over there. But I know how this starts... Kind of like Prothane, Driveshaft shop, Ksport, and all the other companies we've had success with. It's only a matter of time until they give in to our annoying nagging for parts and service..

If you're talking about the block, I think it's to force the coolant to flow around the cylinder walls instead of just sitting there. I could be wrong. I don't see how else that bar would enhance anything else.

A view of the bare block with the oil squirters

The girdle

I guess it's a hybrid.?!

I'm going to take the block to get hot tank and cleaned up tomorrow, before sending it out.

I'm not to sure. There are so many RBC..RBB..RWC.. that i see when taking about the engine. There is a little of everything in this K23a1 for sure. It has the same stroke as the RBB (99mm); however, the bore is K23a1 67mm.

I will be going through ERL/Drag Cartel for my short block assembly build. I'm still waiting on them to get word back from Darton. They were kinda weirded out when I asked about the K23a1 being built there. They do K24 blocks ONLY. Their only concern was that the deck height of the K23a1 wouldn't be the same as the K24. Lucky for us our block has the same deck height as the k24 (9.114"). YaY!!!!

So, it will not be long till there is a fully built K23a1 block around here!!! Damn, now I just hope 4 piston has success with my head...

It would be a good idea to look into a type s oil pump. Most of these twin screw type pumps don't flow oil enough in higher rpms. Or look into a K20z3 oil pump. They're the same type as this rdx pump. I know they've been to 8600 on them. No sense in having a built motor and only going to near stock redline.

From the research I've done, it's a modify/bored type-s pump. I'm not sure that will fit. I have at least 3 months to look into oil pumps though. I don't think you have to rev to the atmosphere in order to get power from this thing, gauging off of my current set up.

But, I will no long be running 86mm. It will be 87mm with the sleeved block, so with that I'm thinking I'll have a 2.4l after it's all said and done.

Some sort of hybrid I'm sure. I know about the 86mm bore and that is most likely why it's a 2.3 instead of a 2.4.

Not really a hybrid. Rdx has its own parts others dont use. Honda more than likely chose 86mm over 87mm to have a thicker sleeve being boosted.

This thread is awesome! Thank you so much for the pictures. I really appreciate being able to actually SEE the different rdx parts. I especially like how thick the timing chain is. I don't think it was even that thick on some of my v8 vehicles. Honda really went the extra mile.

Side-note, am I the only one who feels like the rdx is a rally car stuck in an suv body?

No problem. Honda has come a long way. I guess wish they would stop play'n and put one of those V12's in a street chassis.

Rally car, haha I can see that.

You should order a gasket for the rdx. Not all gaskets are the same. Coolant cutouts are different on some. Always a good rule of thumb to order the gasket for the head you'll be using. S2k pump will be overkill. Type S is almost half the price and will be just fine to 9k. Might run into clearance issues with the oil pan. I believe the 9th gen Si's deal with this issue as well and have to modify the pans.

First stage of cleaning. The reason I say, because Drag Cartel will be cleaning it again. I just wanted to ship a clean leak free block to them.

Sent over these pictures to Drag Cartel so they could confirm that the block is open deck. Things are looking good so far!

They are pretty much identical; however, there are two extra holes in the water passage on the two middle cylinders (rear of gasket). I would assume that is for the turbo manifold cooling. Other than that, it's going to be a good match.
