RDX and SH-AWD in some serious MUD

Last night I went to a concert where I was forced to take my RDX into a field that ended up being a complete MUD BOG. (I was NOT happy about it....but that is a different story.) Leaving I was in mud so deep it was covering the tires (3-5inches of thick, wet, sloppy mud). I must say I was a little worried because I know the stock tires on our RDX are really not even close to being made to deal with this.

Well the RDX went just fine. It never spun or really even hiccuped in the mud. A couple times it slid sideways a bit but that was because of the mud being combined with some ruts and bumps in the ground. FWD Cars were getting stuck and having one hell of a time spinning their tires to get out of the muck.

Overall I was impressed with this because the RDX doesn't seem like it was set up to really handle the type of mud I encountered last night.

The SH-AWD truly impresses me as well. It's my favorite attribute of the RDX. It not only performs extremely well in the snow but also rain and any type of slick conditions. I'm looking forward to a snowy winter!

I wish...but it was very very dark and I didn't have my camera with me. Plus we were in bumper to bumper traffic in the mud for nearly 90mins!

I've driven a few AWD vehicles in the mud. They usually don't get stuck until it's deep enough to high centre them.

Honestly, SH AWD isn't magical - it's a typical AWD system with yaw control. Search Youtube for Subaru's AWD demos.

The RDX can send up to 70% of torque to the rear wheels in slick conditions. Many other SUVs can only send up to 50% (if that) like the Lexus RX. I'd say the RDX has an advantage here.

Dang, pics would have been great, BUT who wants the bog in the car! I can't stand it when the dog climbs in and just gets the seat a bit damp. Mud would do me in,
