Extend the CPO warranty?

Extend the CPO warranty?
Hi,
First post here.
Picking up a 2010 RDX SH-AWD with tech package. The car currently has 1,945 miles and is coming with a CPO of 5/62,000 plus 7/100,000 (CPO expires 8/2014)
The dealer said that I can up the CPO to a full 7/100,000 for $895.
In this case, we would hit 7 years way before the 100,000. If we upgrade the CPO/7-100,000 will expire in 8/2016.
Does it pay to upgrade for $895?
Thanks

It is pennies compared to the price of the car, but car dealers/ins companies know the odds and the odds say that they're going to make money off me.

In my case it was a no-brainer because I keep cars for a long time, I paid something like 1,100 or 1,200 and don't regret it, even if I never get to use it...

With me it's about really wasting money. We've bought extended warranties over the years and sometimes not using them at all, or ended up fighting with the ins comp (3rd party) for payment on a repair.
In this case, it's about going for the extra money. We were looking at a 2009 CPO non-tech locally with 10,000 miles for $28,000 before sitting down to talk. (My fault) that I found a 2010 CPO tech package with 1,945 miles on her with the final price of $32,000 (I really wanted to keep it under $30,000). So besides the $32 plus a little more in taxes, plus the $500 to have it shipped (cheaper than flying and driving back), it could be around $5,500-$6,500 more than I really wanted to spend.
The 2009 was the same blue as my wife's 2004 BMW X3, so she wasn't crazy about getting another same blue. The 2010 RDX was the dark red (we call it black cherry) and she batted her eyes a few time and wala, I was done.
The current CPO will end on 8/29/2014. So it's less than 4 years away. but extending it would bring it to 8/29/2016.
But even without extending the CPO, we would still have the powertrain until 7/100,000 miles or 8/29/2016.
I know it might be penny wise and pound foolish, but I'm just trying to keep the cost down.

How long do you [typically] keep cars? think about that....As I said, for me 100K miles was a no brainer since I keep cars for a long time and want to have the peace of mind. I also have to say that I never buy extended warranties on anything, I don't think that they are "worth it", however the car is a different thing all together.

Were selling the BMW 2004 X3 only because the CPO is expiring(bought Dec 2005); otherwise we would keep it. But for the most part when we buy a car it becomes "family" for a long time.
I have my 2003 Mustang GT for 8 years, 95,000 miles (even though hardly driven the last few years). Selling a car within a 5 year period for us is short, we usually keep them longer. SOOOO, I guess I'm answering my own question of extending the CPO or not.
Hate to go for the extra money now, but would hate myself more down the road for not going for it. Especially that my wife is retired now and the cash flow won't be as great in a few years as it is now, should something go wrong.
Thanks

Think about it like this, How much would it cost you to repair/replace an alternator, or an AC compressor, or (not that anybody has mention it failing) a turbo charger? is it worth it to see it that way? You will definitely spend over 1K in repairs covered by warranty in a 7 year period I think......just my two cents....

I also want to add that you can get your money back for that should you sell the car.....It's a "transferable" warranty I assume that you can elect to sell to the buyer or not for an additional fee.....

So it looks like I'll be extending the CPO to 8/29/2016. Just hope the Mayan calendar is wrong and I'm not blowing the money...LOL

Well, here's the reason why we're selling the X3. The evaporator coil needed to changed. The X3 was in the dealer for 1 week and while it didn't show the cost on the invoice, it was over $2000.

Just curious if anyone knows an Acura online site that can sell the extended CPO warranty.
My dealer is asking $895 for the extra 2 years and wondering if I can get it a little cheaper elsewhere?
Or do I have to buy it from the selling dealer?
Thanks

I think you can still buy it through Curry Acura online. I thought they stopped selling it online, but maybe not.
I opted to get the extended warranty for my 2011. I didn't get it on my TSX and then this year started having problems, which was one reason for trading it. I also know I'm going to be putting more miles on my RDX and I'll probably be out of warranty miles-wise before the 4 years are up. The RDX also has a lot more technology than my TSX did, so if things go wrong, I'm sure they'll add up quickly. The warranty I got goes to either 7 or 8 years (can't remember exactly) or 120,000 miles.

Just sent CurryAcura an email about buying the extended CPO? Hopefully I can through them and maybe at a better price.
Thanks

Please let us know if you get a better deal since I think that the asking $895 is very competitive already.
