throtle body coolant bipass

i found a conversation where a guy with a 3L cl re routed the coolant lines that run threw the throtle body housing, the reason (mathimaticly and physicaly should work) was that the coolant was run threw there for winter, to heat up the air going into the engine allowing cooler air in. i did a test run befor i parked it for the winter and i had no problems. all coolant circulated fine no leaks no overheat. i was inquiering as to if any1 knows more about this proceedure, ie. if it will wreck anything, if there is anything im missing exc. thanx

it won't wreck anything, as long as you don't live in the desert

no, saskatchewan. but the car is my summer vehical. i do understand the cooling system but does the T.B. have the system for heating the air into the engine? for cooling the T.B. cause it gets hot? and does this acctualy do anything for throtle response or is it another gay back yard mod that does fuck all????

I don't really know, but I'm curious what's the point of rerouting it? Why wouldn't you want cooler air going into your engine?

I would think the cooler the air the better, I have no idea why anyone would want hotter air going into the throttle body. Just makes absolutely no sense to me, everything I have ever read has to do with trying to get the intake as far away from heat as possible. Thats the reason all the hot rod guys put hood scoops on their hood, to go directly from the outside into the carbs. Sold old Muscle cars use this method like the cowl induction hood, it forces cold air into the carbs to give it faster response

The only real benefit is for extremely hot temperatures, doing this mod does free up a couple of loose hp, but you're not going to be beating vipers because of it. A few of us have done this mod and reported no issues.

Sorry I still don't really get it, what does removing a coolant line through the throttle body do to gain horsepower? What is it affecting besides not cooling the air?

from my understanding this is done on newer vehicals for cold weather conditions, in winter the air is to dense and cold from start up to operating temp. but in summer the coolant is hotter than the T.B. would be without it flowing threw it. all i did was bipas the T.B. so in summer (my car is a summer car) the T.B. stays cooler. cooler denser air + more H.P. and better trottle response.

ok so you are talking about removing lines instead of adding them to the throttle body correct? I don't remember seeing any coolant lines going into my TB and I removed my entire intake manifold to clean the EGR port and I swear I don't remember seeing any coolant lines connected to it. That is why I was confused and wondered why in the world you would want hotter air going into the TB because hotter air would make it lose horsepower instead of gaining any I would think

yes, on my car there are lines running into my TB. form i beleve the head, although i did this just befor i stored it and didnt look good as im cleaning it up better this spring., some lines run into a plactic bracket and into my TB. then out again and into the head. as the intake ant TB. are aluminum and disipate heat very well, the coolant would be hotter than the TB. what im doing is hooking up cowel induction of some kind to pump it outside air into the engine compartment so i was thinking of running small lines from the circulated air threw the TB. using the coolant ports. easy, a line in from the outside air and a line out into engine compartment , this will circulate the air SLIGHTLY, better than hot coolant.
