Why do swapped engines always......

I have noticed that almost all engines that are sold to be swapped into another car have right around 30,000 miles on them. Why is that? Are they just saying this because it is a reasonable low number, or do they acutaly come with paper work telling the exact mileage?

I take it you are are talking about JDM engines. If so, it is because the average life span of a car is about 40,000 miles, in Japan. People in Japan don't seem to drive as much and always want to have a new car. So cars in Japan have very few miles compared to those in the states. Also there is some sort of law in Japan that you cannot export an engine if it has more than 40,000 or so I've heard. All legit swaps should come with paper work proving the miles and other stuff like compression tests.

i dunno who holds more truth here.. but i've always heard emmissions is really tight over in japan.. and they get taxed really hard core if they're car has more then 30k miles on it.. so they usually just change the engine every 30k miles.. like my ferio came with a b16 that didn't match the cars vins.. so i'm guessing it was on its 3rd motor..

yep...both reasons are correct but f0de is a lil more correct because of the emmissions. Oh and most H22 come with auto trannies that need to be seperated which explains why some are sold with engine only and no tranny

Didn't feel anything here at the end of the parkway. New Jersey does blow, I leave in 2 weeks for Norfolk Va. Can't wait to get out of here.

? If emissions are so strict in Japan, why does it cost so much to convert a Skyline to CA emission standards ?

Good question. I was wondering the same thing. I think the car should just be cheaper altogether that way I could have one

nah i love new jersey.. i just don't enjoy the ground shaking.. um, the skyline thing.. its mostly used skylines i see over here.. but a lot of things are different in japan.. like the windshields of cars.. bumpers.. headlights.. so it just costs money to do everything.. they just throw a few cats on it and they're done for emmissions.. skylines are pretty cheap.. 20k or so for a r34 used.. and less then 30k for a brand new one i think
