Tweeters
1"
Keep in mind that the 1" tweeters in the dash are part of a "component" system. They're "tied" to the 6.5" door speakers.
If you plan on just replacing the tweeters, you're gonna need to replace the door speakers also. The "crossover" is built into the stock stweeter. Once removed, you eliminate the ability of the low frequencies from being blocked to the tweeters.
Personally, I'd just replace both the tweeters and the door speakers with aftermarket components.

After getting a new HU i realized they are JUNK
After getting a new HU i realized they are JUNK
this guy is the man right here ^^^^
i think that the bose speakers do the best job they can for being paper speakers. however they really need to be replaced. what i was looking at doing was replacing the speakers in the car and the amp, but keep the stock head unit for a really stock look (deter thieves) and so that i can use my steering wheel controls.
so as Clpower said, what is needed and how much $$$$$

OK guys.......heres a run down
you can leave the stock wiring.....
if youre just looking for decent sound ... go with a component set up front and a good set of 6x9's in the rear....
i dont really like 6x9's...but then again, im also a audio nut......so i always want the best sound. ANYWAY
go all out on the headunit....especially if you dont wanna get a amp to power your speakers.....i would highly recommend an alpine h/u. Look into infinity kappa series components and 6x9's and low end MB quat components. Low end quart's still sound awsome.....so dont be detered from their low end. Check out www.ikesound.com for the best prices on those two speakers.....any more questions ill be happy to answer

I just got this HU about a month ago. Will it be powerfull enough to run the speakers? Or will I need an amp?

I've got MB quart components in my Sub and I like those.
Also, i've heard 6x9's are a bitch to fit in the rear and that maybe a 6" coaxiol would be better? (I don't know shit about stereos guys, so if I sound like a fool let me know
)

what do you mean when you say youve got mb quart components in your sub? are you sayin you have a mb quart brand sub?!
heres a link to the kinda comp's you should be looking at if you just want decent sound. http://www.ikesound.com/product-product_id/455
your h/u says it puts out 16 watts rms...that means youre giving each speaker 16 watts all the time....which really is weak. those comps in the link ask for atleast 35 but no more than 90 all the time...... i would say what you should do is just buy those comps first.....replace your doors with those and see how it sounds. If youre not happy then buy a small amp and hook it up to them. i honestly wouldnt even worry about the backs....theyre just fill speakers and its really not worth your time or money......

nah, i've got MB quart components in my 55 suburban
that looks like a good price. How hard is it to install the tweeter up on the dash?

FUCK im an idiot! in the link for the mbquarts, i thought they were 184 bucks. then i realized thats how much you save and that they are actually 65. Thats a pretty good deal.
Now here's another question, should I get the Mbquart components in the link in 5.25 inches for the front (i mean, is that the right size)? Also, can you recommend some good 6x9s?

i think that we have 6.5 in the doors and 6X9 in the rear and i think that if you want the best sound get an aftermarket HU and an good amp with a built in cross over. and that is a good start!!
and from another thread .... 6.5's are hard to fit into the door so get some 5.5"s or was it 5's not sure anymore it was posted sometime this week.
something to do with the mounting depth of the stock "6.5's"
something to do with the mounting depth of the stock "6.5's"
its 5.5 for stock size on our doors....and if youw ere to buy an amp you better get a h/u for it. you dont need it, there is an inline converter that allows you to hook up amps to stock h/u's....but i wouldnt recommend them....if you just want a decent system get a new h/u and components......

these look like some good 6x9's if youre just using a h/u to power em...they'd work well on an amp too...

d5, what would be needed to install those MB's you posted? How hard is the tweeter up front to get to? Will the others bolt right into the door slot?
you got everthing you need....your h/u will work for that....and to get to the front tweeters is easy...its just a little tight...just take a flat head screwdriver and pry under the grill and the whole thing pops right out...the tweeter is attached to the grill. and yes, the 5.5"s bolt right into the stock location.....

well thats bullshit...cause im 20 and my parents wont let me keep all my cars.............i spose if i had my dad around it'd be easier to persuade mom that theres nothing wrong with driving more than one car!
yeah ikesound is good I bought some stuff from them 3 years ago.
Anyway... another question since the infinity references were suggested... what is the difference between 2 way 3way and 4 way speakers? they project sound in 2,3,or 4 directions?
if that is the case what are the benefits and draw backs from having more than 1 or 2 directions?
