as i said before i already did a search didnt see anything that would give me a definite answer to my situation. thanks for your help though. but if i were to switch to synthetic i think i would go with Valvoline 5-30. unless its a bad idea to use synthetic with 103K miles.

I second that. You shouldnt have a problem, 100k miles is young for a honda.
btw ur car is sexy.. Love the tint.

Valvoline Synthetic 5w30 is what I use, but Mobile 1 is also very highly rated by many on this forum. Stay away from that Penn state shit... You don't want that.

I liked Royal Purple. I want to give Red Line a try, since that's what I have in my tranny.

Mobile 1

Be careful, once you switch over to fully synthetic you *should not* switch back to regular oil.

with the amount of miles on my car. do you guys think it would be a good idea to flush my tranny fluid in favor of high performance transmission fluid. or keep what im already running with.

So which is better...

Mobil 1 5w 30?
Valvoline 5w 30?
Royal Purple 5w 30?

Cocoa already said that mobil 1 makes your oil leak, so I doubt I will be switching to it. How about the rest? Post prices of each.

Valvoline 5w 30

:silvercup Mobil 1 5w 30

Royal Purple 5w 30

I can't say I've ever heard of Mobile 1 causing leaks. If there were leaks, they were there before. Oh well, no biggie. Good Luck with you selection.

Mobile 1 is better than valvoline by far. But as stated, once you switch to synthetic, DO NOT go back. My car loves mobile 1, never been happier

well then using synthetic can be a problem for the people that will eventually be driving our cars in the future. even though i doubt someone is gonna want my car after im done with on a count of all the miles that i have now and will put on it.

i was also thinking about using high mileage oil. any of you guys use that and do you think 103K is high enough to need high mileage oil.

I don't think that you need to use that on a honda motor with only 103K, but it is a good idea to use eventually.

Some synthetics cause oil leaks in higher mileage cars due to the fact that they are a little thinner than standard oils (tend to seep past some gaskets etc.) Hence, "high mileage" synthetic oils that have come to the market are supposed to be absorbed into those seals and cause them to expand, thus eliminating oil leaks.

In many cases, though, synthetic will not cause leaks. I put fully synthetic into my '93 Cavalier with 160,000 miles and got no leaks at all.

I'd use Mobil 1, with the viscosity rating listed in your manual.

ive always used 10w30 penzoil. its alittle thicker but it doesent get broke down as fast as 5w30. then again i lived in texas for 14 years, and when i pcs'd to mcguire afb, nj i used 5w30 durring the winter, and now im down in fla. so i use 10w30 again.. i just started using the high milage stuff this past oil change, so far the engine runs alittle quieter, not as much of the lifter tap is noticable.. tho they need to be adjusted badly. oh yea i also change my oil every 2500 miles. except for this last time i went almost 4k..

Synthetic oil molecules are much smaller and tend to leak through the seals so if you have leaks with normal oil even a small leak you will see that synthetic will make it worse. 5w-30 is typical I dont know why you would want anything different but hey why not and Im all about the Amsoil if you want the best get it with there filter can u say minimum of 12000 miles if you get the right stuff I just switched in my 3.0 and it was well worth it
