Optima Battery for a 2.3CL? Do they exist?
Optima Battery for a 2.3CL? Do they exist?
I know this sounds really noob -- however I searched around and couldn't get a definitive answer.
Seems several ppl on here use the Optima line of batteries.
My Interstate battery died, and I'm looking for an upgrade, however everywhere I go everyone says they don't make one for my 1999 2.3CL 4-cyl version?
Can anyone confirm or refute that claim?
Sam's Club said I would need to swap out the battery posts? Others say there is none available??
BTW: I'm in Toronto, ON (Canada) which could be the reason?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Canadian Tire doesn't even have an "Eliminator" series version, only their "72"

Yes, their numbering is a bit off. The 3.0 battery size is 26, I got a 75/25 yellow top and it fit right in with the spacer it comes with.

I have the D34/78 yellow top in my 2.3, which I think is bigger than our stock size batteries and considered to be a large car battery. It fits just fine with the spacer it came with (optimas are shorter than most regular batteries). The only issue is that the terminals are on the far side of the battery. Which means you have to stretch the cables about two inches to make them reach, but is not at all a problem.
They do make a D35 series which corrects this "problem" but they are hard to come by unless you order it online. But in the end, any battery will work as long as you can physically make it fit in your car.
Thanks to all who posted their knowledge/experiences with the Optima batteries!
I felt confident enough to head out and ultimately picked up a D34/78 RedTop!
I couldn't justify shelling out more for the YellowTop since I no longer crank out tunes like the good ol' days
Thanks again everyone! AZ rules all other forums hands down.
