sumkidwithacl.... relax buddy!!!

first off... o snap its eric... I have had a switch on my OD since 98... but it kills your speedometer also, so you'll have to learn your rpm when driving...

no sumkid... its only illegal if you try selling your vehicxle with a false reading.... my car has been likew this as long as I have had it so it is registered with the mileage stated even though its not actual... if i tried selling y car now, it would be ILLEGAL - FRAUD....

My purposes are strictly to save $$$ on insurance... If you think that keeping your mileage down to save a buck from an insurance co thats overpriced anyway is illegal... then lock my ass up but that insurance co better be in the cell block next to my ass for rippin me off!

Your a dumbass How old are you 16? Do you have to do illegal stuff to be cool or something? There is a reason why you have an odometer and im not sure about the insurance thing but wouldnt that be insurance fraud and you are never going to sell your car? I find that hard to believe but im sure if you do sell you will tell them the actual mileage and not what the OD says.

Im going to have to agree with sumkid on this, its people like you that piss me off. How much would it suck if you were to buy my car with 211,000 miles on it but i was an ass and shut my OD off so it says i only have 60k? would you be pissed?

I hate to tell you but shutting off my odometer 2 qeeks before I sell the car would be stupid. I wouldnever do something like that, espexially because when I bought my car it was/is rumoured to ghave way more miles than suspected. I honestly would never sell a car with more miles than on the odometer. If I did, I would tell them ho muh was really on it.

I don't know what insurance some of you guys have, but i've never had mileage affect my rates. I can't even think of any logical reason mileage would be significant to auto insurance, except for blue book value in case of a total - and even that I guarantee is almost negligible when campared to driving record, driver's age/profile, driving location/region, type of vehicle, and AGE (not mileage) of vehicle.

i don't really care what you do with your car. I'm just wondering what mileage has to do with insurance. yeah part time/full time driver makes a difference, but that's just something you tell em' when you buy your insurance. After that they don't hardly keep track of your mileage - at least mine never has. The only time they'll get you mileage is if you file a claim.

I'm completely lost as to what this thread is about now.

I've also never seen one person have half of the posts on a single thread this long.

lol, I know that the logical use for something like this would be to keep miles off of your ar so that it seems like it may only have 20000 miles on it rather than 120000 miles. But if you knew me and knew the kind of dstress that I went through when I thought that my car had more miles on it then it did, then you would know that I would never do something like that.

How cool would it be to flip a switch and have your passenger thinking that you were going 0 mpn.

mileage doesn't affect my insurance either, but it would definitely extend the life of an extended warranty.

If i remember correctly several insurance companies asked me for a yearly mileage estimate. If you drive the car to work or school they increase ur insurance due to higher risks. Its a higher risk because ur on the road more and especially if ur on the road during rush hour. I heard its best to say the car is used for leisure activities. And that U use public transprtation or carpool to get to these destinations.

I've tested it on websites and even consulted insurance dealers and I have found it to be true.

sorry for not responding sooner... been away froom my comp...

anyway... our ODs are not digital (digitals started in '00) so you can t-tap a wire straight into your OD wire and add a switch to it... its that simpole... Mine is hidden up under my dash by steering column... I reach my hand and flip it when I want!

well I am not taking my dash apart.. but remove your tac cluster... the wire that leads into your OD and Speedometer are one in the same... Buy T-Taps (they clamp onto wires an split out to a 3rd wire)... the 3rd wire lead out wikll be your switch... that then acts as a breaker in the line, cutting off or letting through the feed.. its easy as that!

For those of you who still don't understand Casper's instructions, you can go to Radio Shack and buy a SPST switch to do the OD thing. OR, if you're feeling tricky, you can buy a DPDT switch and maintain the tachometer.

I was not aware that you can even do this. Every odometer I have played with uses a line that looks like a bicycle brake cable. Then again, I have never looked at a Honda/Acura odometer cable.

Word to the wise: The computer logs the actual mileage, so don't do this in an attempt to extend your warranty.

we do not have a recorded mileage in our car, only the digitals do and thats honda/acura 00' and younger... we are safe to do what we want with no record! easy for me.. I have had it since day one!
