Next mod: GPS or radar detector

I was gonna get a portable GPS for my first gen, but today was the second day that I got pulled in thirty days for speeding. The first time I should have got pulled but today I was just driving to work movin with traffic when I got stopped by a cop going in the opposite direction... 39 in a 25 no ticket either time, but this is like the third ticket I escaped and basically I DON'T WANNA GET PULLED ANYMORE! So now i'm considering a radar detector over GPS but what do you guys think?? And are they legal in PA?

(VA cops have nothin better to do)

you're right about the VA cops, but Radar detectors as you know are very illegal in VA. Get the GPS and drive slower. Set the cruise control behind a car doing a decent speed on the highway and follow.

GPS is nice, you never have to worry about directions again. The radar detector is NOT a gaurentee that you wont get pulled over again. Cops can pace you, or hit you with POP laser and what not. Id say get the GPS and dont be driving 39 in a 25? I dont really use my radar unless im on the freeway anyways.

I never got pulled on the highway
and GPS are on sale like everywhere now, so that might be the best bet, any brand suggestions? I work at sears and they got garmin and Magellan and some other brand, but best buy has like a $100 off sale. and most don't have monthly fees.

I'd get the valentine 1, it detects nearly everything, even POP mode and you get sent new software when they upgrade, it's a good unit and will probably save you money in the long run if you drive fast.

get both...radar dectector pays for itself

my Bel 980 series has paid for itself 10x easily(and they arent cheap).. on Interstate 5 between Norcal and Socal...even in town, it is easy to do 40 in a 30mph zone...even just staying with traffic....also my dectector saved me from falling asleep and crashing when approaching some construction on Interstate 15 near Barstow because the construction site transmitted a warning-picked up by radar detector..I definately would not have made the turn. it is nice to know when you are under radar survealance.

its completely worth it. Just think about it, if it saves your ass 2-3 times. it has already paid for itself. v1 FTW. read up comparisons/reviews, whatever and v1 is champ. Another competitor that is a bit cheaper but not as good is the passport 8500

I got the Blue Escort 8500 X50 because after my discount its only $150, for that price it cant be beat and now it matches my blue radio display. X,K,KA,POP,Laser/Lidar detection works like a dream, I've been saved a couple times already. Even at $350 I'd say its a good deal.

p.s. Radar detectors are only illegal in Virginia and Washington, DC.

No No No,,, I never said that it was not worth it... Its well worth it if you have a heavy foot. I guess getting a few tickets is what it took me to slow down, so I don't even use mine anymore...

You'd be hard pressed to find a list of 50 states with out VA, or MA and the 4 other commonweaths for that matter. None of those list DC as a state. Anyways go back to college, GARMIN FTW

10 miles over is more than you think. Not saying I don't speed here and there.

5mph over is generally safe, but it really depends on the road you're traveling. i know some cops that'll let you go 14mph over on a busy two lane highway.
