my No crank/No start thread.

okay to this morning my ack didn't start in defiantly.

since i got the car, i've had a intermittent no start issue. Which the previous owner stated he has been having recently (btw i got the car from a good friend of mine), usually when it was colder. I noticed it only does this when the car is cold, usually after i've been driving it, it starts fine.

its here's how it goes, i turn the key, press the clutch, 1 click, no start.

it would be, i would, play with the key, maybe release the clutch and press it again, and it would start, sometimes, i'd have to do this a few times, most of the time, on the 2nd or 4th try it would turn over slowly and not start, then i would try it again and it would start up.

my initial thought was its a ignition switch issue, or at very first, i thought maybe clutch switch problem, but i ruled that out.

so, what are your thoughts?

as of right now, i tried playing with the key for like 20min, nothing, pressed the clutch a few times, like b4. nothing. just one click. no start. So i pushed the CL out of the way and took the 4runner to work.

I haven't tried the hammer trick on the start, and i haven't manual activating the solenoid, nor manual trying the starter.

also i don't think its a MR issue (if these cars even have that problem like other honda's) b/c a faulty MR should let the car crank.

Starter, or battery issue. If nothing else, there was a recall on the ignition switch too, but your issue sounds like the starter. I'd test or replace the battery first though

yea, i think i automatically ruled the battery out (b/c the lights weren't dim, the HU was working properly), i'll double check it too anyways.

what kind of problem were seen with the ignition switch?

if u have a meter check the voltage on ur battery it should be between 12.5 and i think 14 volts but it sound like a starter issue if ur saying that i makes a click sound

to be exact, acceptable battery voltage is btwn 11.6-13.6v but the car only needs 10.6 to start/run. and yes i did check it out already, its at 11.96 which is typical.

I've already gone ahead and pulled out the starter, as i can hear the solenoid clicking.

I'm gonna take it to napa have them test it, and i've already put a brand new starter on reserve at a parts warehouse (i know someone who works sales there).

just wanted to add, i tried manual jumping the starter, out of the car, and the solenoid works, started turned over. so then, i threw it back in the car, and did the same test, and it failed to turn the motor over, it turned a tad, but then just gave up.

we'll see what they say at napa tomorrow.

This happened to me once, then it started up after about 5 minuets. My lights dim when idle as well. I took it to my mechanic and they said the alternator was fine. I have no idea myself why our cars dim like that.

That reminds me, I cant stand our stock headlights.
