Keys...?

Here's the story:

I was over at my girlfriends house. We were just messing around outside and she had to get something out of her '97 Accord... So anyway I'm in the driver seat just chillin (shes lookin' in the trunk-for a shirt or something-) And I put my key in the ignition... just messing around... then I was like "hmmm I wonder..." And the car started... with my key...

I was freaking out like WTF... then I tried it on the door but it didn't work...

So my question is Why did the car turn on?

I know that in '97 Honda did not use the keys with the microchip w/e

But still... why did that work?

Oh and her keys dont work in my car...

if the keys are similar enough and yours is worn out enough its very possible it would work.

Her key won't work in your car cause of the imobloizer. My spare keys actually won't turn my current engine on, cause I never had my spares with me to have programmed to the ECU.

Yup, there's a chip in our keys and they have to be programmed to work.

I have spares of my key but all those do is open the doors and that, no chip so it cant start the car. I really need to get to Acura to get a spare key. Anyone know how much spares run for?

yes they will, if you grind them to your key, then even if the key has a transmitter, its useless since the car doesnt have a reciever to use it

There was a thread on this not too long ago. I had my chipped key to my 99 done for $25. That included the key, the cutting, and the programming.
