I just picked up my new TL... beautiful car and wonderful experiece with the dealership. They also handed me only TWO keys. Key1 is for me and Key2 for my wife (I know, I know, she shouldn't get one... LOL).

Since I am using "tandem" parking at work, I really would like to have THREE keys... for the lady at work to be able to move the car without me being present. Most electronics in the car work only with the KEY1 and KEY2... the question is: can I order THIRD key from Acura? How would car "recognize" third key?

I was searcing this forum, but it looks like this was not previously discussed.

Congratz on the purchase. The TL is truly an awesome car.

Try this: A single keyfob will separate into 2 distinct pieces, 1 "mechanical key" and 1 electronic fob. Give one of the pieces to your work person. If I recall correctly, the physical key can lock your glove box for your personal belongings, so you may want to give the electronic fob as a valet.

But I agree, a 3rd key set would be nice to have. I recall my 1G TSX had 4 key fobs, and my wife's RX has 3 keys.

On my 07 tl I had two driver 1 FOBs and one driver 2 fob. You just have to get another one from the dealer.

 

My 09 SH-AWD came with 3 keys - key 1, key 2 and a valet key

 

Was that with or without the tech package?

 

I think the best thing in this situation is to move the car yourself. Don't trust others to do what you ought to do yourself anyway.

 

My AWD w/o Tech also came with that key package. Driver 1, Driver 2, and a gray Valet key (not fob).
