Ok first off, i dont have a first gen CL, i have a 99 AccordV6 coupe, but the acurazine folks are cooler than the people at the honda forums ive found, and the website is nicer so thats why i post here.
Ok now to the idea.
Im probably gonna get flamed for this, but i dont care.
Ive been wanting lambo doors on my car, but i wouldnt do it because I think it would look dumb with the type of windows/doors, so i was thinking is there a way to do a conversion to frameless windows.
I know this would basically prevent me from ever resellin the car, but i dont plan on ever reselling, so thats not a big worry.
So basically do you guys think this would this be doable for a reasonable price?

I want lambo style doors for my cl too but, If I do that it'll be on the Low.. I'm not trying to get roasted either.. But, I'll tell you what has been told to me.. If you want lambo doors, buy a Lamborghini.. Period!

On most sports cars there is not a frame around the top and sides of the windows, its all glass and the insulation for the windows is all attached to the body of the car

DesertFox I thought that's what u mean, was just checking. Do you have a 2 door i'm assuming? Even so the work that would go into fabricating that and actually having it look like it belongs there just seems silly but it would be different and better than lambos IMHO

Not a big fan of lambo doors. Gullwing would actually be kind of cool, especially with roof cutouts, plus they are functional.

Now McLaren F1 style doors would be the bomb. That might just be because I dream of them but I still think the doors are cool - and they are not frameless.

 

I'd say go suicide doors, those are cool. Lambos will look weird unless you get the framework u were speaking of, and that'll be way more than its worth

 

Nice C3 Corvette! Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm going to assume it's a 1978-1982 Vette. Anyways, don't convert your doors to frameless windows....it's not worth the hassle, money, and time. And as far as Lambo doors go, Klepto pretty much summed it up with that pic, lol. But if you must have Lambo doors, just go ahead and do it without altering the window frames.

gull wings would be awesome but you wouldnt be able to get out of your car in a parking spot.

 

i figured this would be pretty much the response i would get, im not a huge fan of gullwing doors, and since i only like suicides on rear doors, which i dont have i wont get those, now the doors on the koenigsegg CC are very cool, its called Dihedral Synchro-Helix Door Actuation and its sort of like butterfly doors, but would probably look retarded on my car, so all in all, ill probably ask my brother if he could help me do it and see what he thinks it will cost, he lives like 3 hours away and owns a paint and body shop, but i probably wont end up doing anything anytime soon, well besides getting new wheels and tires and suspension

Just shave your door handles and call it a day if your brother does body work, shave the handles and you're set

If u have the car as your daily driver, DO NOT get shaved doors. Although it does get the bitches, its completely impractical for everyday use cuz u never know when those cylinders will freeze up or a line will come loose and you wont be able to open your door, therefore looking like an idiot and a thief breaking into your own car with a hangar! ( can u tell i've gone through this before? lol). And if you live somewhere with a cold winter, you do NOT want to be out in the cold dealing with the poppers and the lines like so:

shaved door handles would be cool, but id be afraid they would go out, i mean so far on my car ive had a main relay go out, a stoplight switch, a tranny, and then some normal wear like tires, headlights, and ive only had the car a year since march, and now my door lock actuator is going out on both sides, so id be afraid with my luck id get trapped out of my car lol
but i have no spare key, and have managed to never lock myself out of my car

 

You should get a new key cut. I went to a hardware store and I think it cost $3. At the dealership it costs around $9

 

i thought new keys were like 50 bucks

 

only 97's can do that, 98 and 99's have transponder keys. but you should still be able to get one on ebay for less than $12

Oh btw for the whole frameless notion on lambo doors...only the murci has frameless - countach and diablo had frames (the ORIGINAL Lambo door cars lol).

I know it's been done.. I've seen a few flicks with on the net.. It kind of does look ugly.. Pimp My Ride destroyed the import scene when they did it to that pink honda.. I won't do it if I can't get the hindges for a really low price.. I'm all about keeping the CL clean and content.. not to much flash you know? But, I have a long way to go before I get the kit anyway... It is really played out though... If my door starts making noise.. I'll do.. that won't happen..
