H22 swap

i will be doing my H22 swap soon. i already bought a hasport mount, and the Ultimate H22 swap guide book (which is taking forever to come to my house) and this week i will begin to piece parts together for the H23 manual tensioner conversion. but i was just wondering for all you 97 CL H22ers out there. who actually did it themselves. me and my friends are gonna do it ourselves and im wondering just out of curiousity, who here has done it themselves. im not really worried, cuz apparently the book i bought is like "The Holy Bible" for this swap. im just kinda shook on the whole ECU and wiring the dist. situation. i heard its easier on a 97 compared to the 98-99.

yea i really have no intentions on bringing it to a shop cuz its not like any real custom work has to be done. hopefully i wont have my car towed to a shop to finish the swap. even though my car cant be towed without damaging the underneath

i need to take a picture of my ECU for u, and how its wired up. Its 'special'. Also the 'ultimate swap guide' tells u to take ur head off and replace the head gasget which could void your warranty for ur motor. (if u have one)

I got a OBDI P28 (a stock 92-95 civic Si ECU) but its reprogrammed with h22 basemap. Then i used a OBD2b to OBD1 jumper harness, and i rewired the distributor directly to the ECU using the jumper . the way that the shop does it (R1 Motors who saved my ass) they usually wire the dizzy into the stock engine harness if they can.

The P13 (JDM h22 ECU) isnt that bad of an ecu, its just annoying because of the CEL u will throw all the time.

shit im gonna have trouble with that.

but the reason i dont want the JDM Ecu is because its governed at 113mph.

if i decide to keep the ECU thats giving with me would that be much easier to wire??

no its going to have the same wiring issue. just get a chipped p28 and u wont have a CEL its worth the extra $150

Chipped P28 FTW! The shit you can do with one of those things is truly amazing. I'm getting a USB datalogging cable wired into mine and an Ostrich emulator from Moates.net for some real time programming.

arite, im just a little stressed cuz i want to start everything by thrusday night. but i still dont have the ultimate h22 swap guide book, the hasport driver side mount, the p28 ecu (i can get one of those easily, just not chipped), or the h23 manual tensioner piece.

the only part of the puzzle i definitly will have by thrusday is the actual swap itself. i might have to put this install on hold till next thrusday.

I think that's just the way car modding goes. 1 step forward, 1 step back, 1 step forward, 1 step back. And I don't think anyone ever gets use to it. I sure as hell don't.

My philosophy is: every job u do (ie. change alternator, sway bar, suspension) theres always one stubborn bolt or some fuked up bushing that takes FOREVER to get around.
