Do I have a problem??
Lately I have noticed that I can slide most of the gears out of gear w/out using the clutch (no grinding). I am pretty sure that this can not be good, but do I have a problem. Is my clutch going to go soon? Thanks!
my friend shifts his volvo 850 without using the clutch (out and into gears)
i'm sure there isnt a problem, just might not be the best thing for the car to do it also, someone on here will probably tell you why, but it takes a certain rpm to slide the gears out without the clutch

Sorry, I think I explained it a little wrong. The car istn doing it...[B]I am able to push out of some gears w/out the clutch. I have also heard about shifting w/out the clutch at certain RPMs and that might be it. I guess there is no real problem. Thanks for all the help!
We do it with the big trucks (24', semi) all the time. Like for accelerating, just push into neutral and with a slight pressure on the next gear. Let off the gas and when the RPMs fall to the right place, it'll just slide into gear, then step on the gas. Not quite as easy downshifting, but it can be done.
Of course, we're only talking about 500-2500rpm in trucks like that.
On any car tho, there shouldn't be grinding coming out of a gear. It's going into the next that would produce the usual sound of meshing gear teeth.
