Meh... put it this way.

A 3.2 MT and a 3.2 AT that have the exact same setup (i.e. S/C, headers, exhaust, etc) will run nearly the same 1/4 mile times. This is because the automatic launches so much easier. I'm not speaking just on opinion but on facts. A 3.2 MT needed slicks to pull a 1.9 60' whereas an automatic CL-S pulled a 1.9 on street tires.

In my own cars with the same set up I pulled a 2.000 60' in the automatic and a 2.2 60' in the manual transmission car.

Nothing beats a torque converter for drag racing launches. Period.

Sure a manual transmission is more fun to drive and is more efficient. But if you can't get the power to the ground as quick as the next guy you are going to loose. I've yet to see a 6-speed CL-S post a 60' time better than 2.2 on street tires. However, 2.0-2.1's are commonplace for the automatics.
