Brake Light Problem

Yesterday, as I was driving I went to hit the brakes, and my indicator light inside came on saying I had a light not working, so I replaced the bulb last night and it still isn't working. I got a meter out, and checked the voltages going to the bulb, and the parking light contact has it's voltage when it should, but the brake light contact in the socket never gets 12V across it. All the other brake lights work except the drivers side one. I want to get into it more and see if I can tell if maybe the "brake light check" circuit is fried or something. Does anyone else have ideas as to how to fix this or what else there is I can check?

Thanks,

Michael

Did you replace the correct bulb?

A few weeks ago the same thing happened to me and I thought I was pulling out the right bulb from the taillight.....turns out I replaced the one I thought was the brake light without really checking.
I was wrong.

But now I have 2 bulbs for when the other ones go out......oh well

I'm pretty sure I did, cause isn't it the bulb in the big section of the tail light. The bulb was a fairly good size (like a quarter in diameter on the actual glass part). I guess I need to check voltages on the other side of the car too to see if I did replace the right one.

I changed the signal one instead once. I was like WTF how come it didn't work. hahahaha You should check the fuse also, it might have blown.

I know the fuses are Ok, because my other brake light is working, and they are on the same fuse. I printed off a wiring diagram of the lights on our cars, so I know that the fuse isn't blown for sure. I'm gonna turn on the blinker as soon as I get out of here and watch which light lights up. It would just be my luck that I replaced the wrong one.

Doh! Mine is doing that now. I just replaced a dash fuse and then my right brake light stop working. It doesn't show up on my fault indicator on my dash but it doesn't light up. Argh I hate these things.

Ok, now everyone can call me an idiot!

I did replace the wrong one. I wasn't thinking, and it was dark when I tried replacing the bulb. The gray socket is your blinker, and the black socket is the brake light. I wasn't looking close enough and just took out the gray one everytime, so this time I looked closer and saw that there's one higher than the other. I replaced it, and now my brake light is working fine.
