AEM CAI, LOUD whistling noise!
Hey guys, just installed my AEM CAI on my 3.0 CL, I love it and i'd reccomend it to anyone, but can someone tell me whats up with this whistling noise? This is the third car that i've installed intake on, I know a little chirping noise is normal when at slight accelleration, when I do it with my CL, I can hear the friggin whistle over my radio! Please advise guys, is there anything I can do? Is it my intake?

heres tha deal, you're car is totally restricted when from the factory, it's a luxury car and it's supposed to be QUIET. when you get rid of your air box, so much more air is forcing itself in through the throttle body. when you're at part throttle, massive air is flowing thrrough a tiny opening in the TB causing it to whistle. basic physics. the end.

actually i think the whistling he is asking about is from the cai itself. it is normal and there is nothing you can do about it. its the way the air flows through the cone filter that makes that noise.
the "ffffffff" noise you hear when you press the accelerator is caused by the throttle plate opening and the engine inhaling the air from the cai. since there is air constantly flowing through the cai, when you open the plate, the engine is looking for more air than what was traveling through the cai a second ago. so the air is sucked through the cai faster, creating a very minute (MY-knewt) lag, which creates the noise you hear when you rev. if you ran a conical filter right off your throttle bottle as opposed to a true cai under the fender well, you would notice little or no rev noise because the lag will be little or less than none due to the lack of a traveling tube aka cai... hope that makes sense.

Sorry this is alittle O/T but i have seen a couple topics about CAI noises. Can anyone record the sound w/a CAI and w/o and post the link for us? I know the 2nd Generation CL owners have sound clips

Allright then, thanks for the info. Hey, 1 more thing, is it normal for my intake to make a "psshhhhHHHh" sound when I shut off my car? It goes on for about a second after the ignition is turned off, sounds pretty cool!

you gotta accident waiting to happen with a 100 shot on a single fogger wet system.. if you don't have that first of all your even worse off.. (dry setup).. but if you want to do over 75 please don't do it through a single fogger.. what a waste of money.. honestly i doubt you'll run 13.8 because 1 its a traction disaster.. and 2 good luck trying to get the nitrous into every valve equally.. if you run that big of a shot.. run a direct port wet system.. that taps into each cylinder.. it must be nice tho to do that to a stock 6 cylinder.. my 2.2 barely holds a 75.. soon.. 175 shot direct port.. then i'll race you for pinks.. cuz i need a 3.0 for my collection jk

Is there a vacuum line that had to be disconnected on the 3.0. On the 2.2 the stock intake air resonator is actuated by a vacuum line. If you took this line off and did not cap it, it would probably cause a whistling sound. I dont know anything about the 3.0 so I cant tell you exactly, but my instructions for install werevery unclear about capping the vacuum line to the intake air resonator.

In the 3.0, there is nothing you are supposed to disconnect. There are 2 tubes that run into the stock intake right before you hit the throttle body. When you install the AEM CAI, there are 2 holes in the intake where you connect the tubes.
The filter is supposed to last a long time before you clean it. I dont remember the exact number- maybe 50,000 miles? I know for sure its a lot longer than the stock (30,000 miles) and 6k miles is too short of a time for sure.
