2011 Base or 2008 Tech?

Went to the dealer to see a 2008 MDX Tech with about 55K miles on it listed at $29,900. Wasn't thrilled about how many miles are on it, but all their pre-owned stock had about that much. The sales agent offered us a 2011 Base, service loaner, with 5K miles. They are selling it as a CPO for about $37,500. The car looks great, had its service, and they added a CPO warranty on top of the factory warranty. I know that service loaners can be iffy propositions, but it seems like a good deal. (The dealer only has Acuras, so everyone coming in for service would already be an Acura owner, if that makes a difference.)

We haven't negotiated a final price on either option, but imagine there will be about a 9K difference between the choices. Wondering which way you would go? Would you be too wary of service loaners to consider the 2011 or has the deal been sweetened sufficiently? How do these prices seem to those of you who have negotiated good deals for yourselves?

the choice is up to you but the tech is more desirable. I would check cars.com and autotrader.com to make sure you aren't missing anything.

Keep in mind that loaners are usually really abused.

Welcome to Acurazine gategirl.

I certainly would shop around. A 2011 Base's listed invoice is $39,094, so $37,500 for a CPO loaner seems a little high. If I'm paying almost $40K for a used vehicle, I would expect at least navigation...so you might want to take a look at some low-mileage 2009-2010s Techs.

It's your money, so good luck and let us know how things go...

I just got the 2011 MDX base (Girgio with Ebony) for 37800 Plus TTL in VA (Radley Acura). So why go for 2008, rather new is best for you.

Trading in my 2009 Base

My 2 cents - bought 2009 MDX Base with only 6k miles last Jan. And then last June, traded in our 9.5 years old Camry for Lexus HS250 Premium. I don't like the Base anymore - going to trade it in for a new 2011 Tech. I'm getting quotes - around 43.5k for the new Tech and the 29k trade in for my 2009 MDX Base.

Gategirl,
Welcome. There are a lot if differences from '09 to 2011. Is the navigation system something you really need or want. In the '08 you have the older body style, older technology, and a vehicle with 55k miles on it. If you are concerned with the service loaner my first question would be why? It is an ACURA, first they are built to be driven hard. Second, most people drive them for a couple of hours, to and from work or the store, drive them to lunch or to their homes. Look at the adverage Acura owner. Most are not the kind of people who beat on cars, especially an MDX. If it was an all wheel drive TL, those are driven a little harder but then again THAT is what they are built for. The other thing I would want to remind you of it that car has a bether then new bumper to bumper warrenty as well as a better then new powertrain warrenty.

the 2011 come standard with a backup camera in the rearview mirror and an automatic liftgate so really the only thing you are missing is navigation (Garmin) and the voice commands for the radio/climate/nav systems. Lastly I would have to ask, do you know how the MDX with 55k miles on it was drive? That could have been abused. Acura is currently offering special interest rates on CPO. That would be the recommendation I would go with. If you have any other questions, I sell them so I will try to give you my honest feedback, you can email me at rhensley@drivehubler.com.
