Despite this post flaunting noob, I must ask a few things.
What's a j-pipe do
What's the point of a pre-cat delete and does doing all this return a failed emissions test at inspection?
What I plan on doing is getting a J-pipe and a cat-back exhaust. One word taht is really throwing me off is 'delete'. Does this simply mean bypass or literally delete lmao. Thanks for anyone that will help.

pre-cat deletes means exactly what you think, delete the catalytic converters.
here is what they look like
The newer versions come with better defoulers so they dont throw CELs (check engine light).
J-pipe swap means you take out the OEM j-pipe and replace it with a better flowing aftermarket one.

these j-pipes are redesigned from stock to increase air flow and they give more power than the stock pipe. if u just replace the j-pipe it doesn't affect emissions.
the pre-cat deletes will probably cause you to fail depending on what state you're in and whether or not you leave the 3rd cat in. you're literally removing the 2 front catalytic converters which act as a filter to the burned gases coming out of the engine. deleting these front 2 cats (or all 3) will give a lot of power though, over 20hp at the wheel.

I like using manual cars since there is no data loss from torque converter lock up. But that is only from 1000-2000RPM. Of course I will document the mods on the car.

Does anyone have any pictures of the stock parts on the TL that these aftermarket replace? I understand the test pipe replaces the 3rd cat but the J-Pipe gives you what gain? Is the stock version crimped down. I noticed on my MDX that Honda crimped down this portion of the exhaust/down pipe. It appears for ground clearance.

Three Wheelin'
Some of the actually stated that they lost low-end torque... one guy even sold his pre-cat deletes because of that issue. I'm waiting for the new J-pipe so i will order it along with the test pipe for the 3rd-cat. I was thinking about the precats but losing low end torque is the last thing a TL needs. It would kill all the fun in regular driving

I never dyno'd when I ran the deletes so I can't say with 100% certainty that low end torque was decreased. It did feel less torque-y in the low RPM ranges but once you got on the highway, you quickly forgot about your low end issue since your TL will pull much harder at WOT.
BTW, a quick way to gain more low end torque: CAI and a lighter crank pulley
Oh by the way, the RV6 j-pipe is lighter than stock AND the ATLP one (90% sure).
My setup at the time: AEM CAI, UR pulley, RV6 deletes, j pipe, HFC, Comptech catback.

Is there a diameter difference between the OEM and V2 pipes?
Just out of curiosity, the V1 looks a lot newer than the V2. Any reason why? Also, does anyones SS J-Pipe not tarnish like that?

Richie, great pictures. I appreciate the side-by-side comparison. Your efforts go a long way. Thank you.

Thanks Richie
Richie, your prompt replies and comparison photos are appreciated! I think quite of few folks trust working with you (an engineer) instead of a salesman. Way to go!
