A4 isn't bad. S4 is much better
It's interesting in how much gap Audi leaves between the regular A4 with the turbocharged 4 banger, a forgettable engine compared to the blown 4 banger from BMW or even from GM and the S4.

I barely consider the 4 cyl A4 an truly entry level luxury car.

The 320i can be seen in pretty basic form at the dealerships, but gotta say, if you're looking for any sort of performance, or advanced features at all, you'll be highly disappointed in it. Even there, you start adding option packages on, you'll be well into mid $40s. For that kind of money, it really isn't a very good car. I suppose if you must have the Roundel, that's one way of getting it.

Same thing with the Audis or Mercedes. The CLA, while nice looking, isn't a very good car. To get a decent Benz, you must at least move up to the C Class. Even there, the 4 cyl is tepid compared to the 4 cyl TLX. You need the C400 to get into the performance of the TLX 3.5. And, you'll be hitting $60K by doing so.

A4 isn't bad. S4 is much better, but much more expensive (at least the way they ship them to the dealers here) than the TLX 3.5). Plus, SH AWD is better than Quattro. If I were going to get another Audi, it would be an S3. Again, staring hi 40s to get one of those....if you can even find one.

But you don't really need the 6 Cyl. You can easily find a 328I(normal 4 Cyl Turbo) for mid 40's. Not fully loaded, but loaded enough. The 328I 4 CYl is a very good car already and that is definitely one of the premier cars that would be looked at among luxury shoppers if your price range is in the mid 40's.

One thing that I noticed is a lot of luxury car shoppers tend to bracket base on 'Brands' and 'Price range' rather than the way forum posters do. For instance, forum posters will generally put the Lexus IS and ES in different 'area's so to speak. Buyers will actually look at both. One of the biggest misconceptions is that the ES does not eat away at C-CLASS sales because it's a 'FWD entry level luxury sedan' and not a 'RWD entry level luxury SPORTS sedan'....... No.........they are just both entry level luxury sedans. If the ES never existed? The sales of the S60/IS/TL/C CLASS/A4/3 SERIES will go up. It is what it is.
Of course now it's different since the new C CLASS is technically competing against the Current E CLASS segment now in terms of lease pricing. Every dealership I went to had the new C Class leasing for E Class Money.

The 3 Series is just shocking in terms of sales. It's the Lexus RX of sedans. I don't even think it matters if another luxury brand comes out with a better suv or a better sedan. RX and 3 Series will always be #1 unless BMW/LEXUS creates a self-killer.(Ala NX to take over the RX)

Please don't argue and respect other people's opinion...just write Success or Fail!

I believe it will be a success due to its competitive pricing and different segments like TLX, TLX-Tech, TLX-SH AWD and so on (as per CDN website, there are 7 trims)!

Thank you!
I'm going to have to go with fail. Less front and rear legroom than last 2 generations of the TL is what made me give this car a fail. This is something that they won't be able to fix for 5 years until they redesign! Huge epic fail if you're a TL person. If you're a TSX person, then great, you get some more room. While styling is a matter of preference, this car is "meh". Even with the aero kit, it certainly won't turn any heads, unlike the TL type-S models did. Oh and lack of a manual transmission and hidden exhaust tips are also mistakes, but they can be rectified.

I think the thing that scared me off about Audi (pre-TLX purchase) was the findings of a 2013 Article on engine failure.

1 in 27 engines?! I'm not an actuary, but those odds are way to high. I gave Audi a pass after I read it.

My Audi has been rock solid 14 months 12K miles, but I will say I don;t plan on owning it more than another year because I would never want this outside a warranty, everything is so expensive.

I really wanted to love the TLX and replace my '08 TSX with it, but... I drove the i4, the v6, then the SH-AWD, but none of them seemed a worthy replacement for my TLX with 150K on it. The biggest thing for me is the throttle response and the feeling like there's too much electronics between the road and me. When I hit the gas on my TSX, it goes. On the TLX, it has to think about it. Little things are the archaic GPS, the AC vent reflection, and the dual screens. The wheels are eh, but I could live with them if the car was more responsive. I'm now looking at 2014 328i xDrives. Nice ride and responsive with comparable MPG to the TLX, but more $$$, a maintenance risk, and no crash mitigation. I may just wait till the 2016 TLX comes out. Maybe it will excite me.

^^ I can understand where you are coming from with the throttle response.

Otherwise, the TLX is a very well executed car.

Definitely a success. It's the mainstream sedan of Acura's new generation of cars. What I mean by this: The TL, TSX, RDX, ILX and ZDX all had much lesser material quality than the current TLX, RLX and MDX. I think that come 2016, the RDX and ILX will be on the same levels. This could be because Honda and Acura became less "together" recently -- Acuras looked much more like upgraded Hondas than they do now.

Having owned a TLX for almost a week now, I would definitely say that it's a success. Lots of things that some people have concerns about the TLX have turned out to be non-issues. The car (TLX SH-AWD Elite) is overall a solid upgrade from my 4G TL SH-AWD Elite.

The incredibly quiet interior and the spot-on suspension has made my daily commute such a wonderfully pleasant experience. There are also lots of nice touches inside the TLX that pampers you and I love that.

The exterior styling was my biggest concern but now it has really grown on me and I love my car :-) I am very happy with my choice!

ostrich I agree with you 100%, no regrets at all!

I've had my TLX 3 weeks and driven over 2,400 miles so far. There's so much tech in this car I was intimidated at first coming from an '04 TL, but now that I'm familiar with everything I can't wait to drive it each day. There are so many great features, and overall it's such a comfortable ride. Plus I'm getting 40 mpg in Normal mode on the highway, that's Prius numbers!

I am getting my SH-AWD Tech in about a week, I hope to be as happy as you with the purchase. While the zip of the 5AT in our 2007 TL Type S is exciting, I have increasingly noticed its understeer and rough ride. As I get older those latter factors start to bother me more and more.

So moving at a pace of 4000+ Units. A very good number. By the beginning of 2015, I think only the Lexus ES and BMW 3 Series would be selling more among the entry level luxury sedans.

The Mercedes C Class have priced itself out of the market. I was at my local Mercedes Dealership and the Dealer himself admitted the new C300 is not selling well at all due to the very high prices. He said that Mercedes is either going to start selling it way below MSRP or it's going to suffer.

Ostrich...After being at the dealer earlier this week, I know what you are saying about the looks of the TLX....I LOVE its styling, and it looks amazing in white as you know

I didn't have enough time for another test drive but I'll try in November and report back. I love many many things about the TLX and I just want to be 100% sure that I'll be happy with its driving characteristics but until I get that confirmation, the TLX is out for me...again, that could change

Hey, Weather, if your dealership would "throw in" Anastasia too with your TLX purchase, then would it seal the deal for you!? LOL

I take delivery Wednesday. Still havent seen one on the road. I ought to have seen Ostrich's by now - must have different commute times! With these numbers there is an initial quantity of waiters (people who have been waiting for one...not restaurant servers) that could swell numbers. But these sales are steady and looking good long term. So many of us very thoroughly checked out the alternatives and concluded the TLX was the best value. And it is value that mostly counts. The competing germans, Lexus, etc all cost more and/or offer less.

I spent some time talking to my salesman yesterday on the phone as I was arranging to pick up my RLX hybrid (later today, wow, Acura nailed the driving experience on that car!) He indicated what a drought in sales there was earlier this year because of Acura's piss poor inventory management. I had to agree with the poor guy. They were down to selling CPO used cars! Now they have the TLX and they can hardly keep it in stock. I knew it would be a success. Despite what we enthusiasts think, this car is just what the general non-enthusiast car buying public wants, especially those who were put off by the looks of the 4G TL. Hopefully after the initial burst of buyers, the momentum can be maintained.

All these non-enthusiasts buying this car make it easier for Acura to justify a TLX-S for enthusiasts. Just hang tight, it may be another couple of years but it will come.

I think Acura was trying to do to much with TLX replacing two cars with one. They should have redone TSX and TL . I have a 2012 TSX tech which has been trouble free. I will look at TLX when all the bugs are fixed. Hopefully when mid model refresh is done I will buy .

It's a success, I was going to buy an accord exl but one drive of tlx made me buy one. No other acura is so quiet and smooth. I was also considering rdx but it was noisy compared to tlx. One back to back drive of tlx and rdx made me decide on the tlx. The quiet cabin and 8speed dct is awesome combination. And the official EPA mpgs are achievable. Already averaging 28 mpg.

Congrats!

people love TLX - We do not represent the entire population here. 80% of us are upset about hidden exhausts. I am 99% sure outside of this forum 80% don't care if the exhausts are there or not.

In today's world people care for:
1. Efficient cars
2. Quiet cabin
3. Spacious
4. Security
5. Horse Power, handling and performance

If everyone cared about HP, handling & look - the entire world would buy German cars.

Went for the BMW

Fwiw, I ended up buying a 2014 328i xDrive with leather, nav, cold weather, and driver assist for $42K. I'll miss my TSX...

Maybe it will excite me.

its not a coincidence!!!

TLX is a hit. 905 of articles show that and the sales figures don't lie.
