Putzing around with my new lenses on a camera I am borrowing.

I can't wait for the newer sensor...but I really am going to have to get used to this new system. Its very capable, but it doesn't allow me to shoot under the conditions I used to use with the resolution/crispness I am used to...some of this might be internal settings, sharpness, etc. Some of it is Nikon pure capableness. Some of it is going back to dealing with a cropped sensor.

I sense I might end up using a tripod a lot more with this system. Both of the lenses seem very capable. 16-55 2.8, 50-140 2.8 (24-76, 70-200 in full frame translation)
On the XT1...while not being the actual camera I'm getting, Shooting at higher ISO handheld in low light definitely yields results that can't match Nikon, BUT there is something about the grain structure/noise that is so much more pleasing to look at.

I was able to crop in a decent amount with 16mp...but again no where near what I am used to with 36mp.

I was also shooting on Auto...not taking control of the shutter and going full manual as I normally do.

These are all things I will get used to, and I am happy to do so. Its much more fun to shoot over all, and much lighter to handle.

Exposure: 1/45 @ 2.8
Focal: 61mm
ISO200

Cropped: 1802x1802 from 4896x3264
Exposure: 1/450 @ 6.4
Focal: 140mm
ISO200

Exposure: 1/75 @ 2.8
Focal: 119.2mm
ISO6400

Exposure: 1/25 @ 2.8
Focal: 58.7mm
ISO3200

Oh...and Dynamic Range. Not sure it competes there either, but its not horrible either.

Checking out and playing with setting now. Seems like most people turn DOWN Noise Reduction as much as possible. While some people turn down sharpness and some turn it up (many say turn it up for zooms)

I am so pleased with the DR of the Fuji's, scenes that I would normally have to bracket. I get from one exposure with the RAF's. I still will bracket a scene, but when I process, I find that I use only one exposure many times.

Nice, Im not disappointed by any means. There is just a learning curve to camera, and Im guessing there will be one towards how I shoot. And these are photos I took in horrible light messing around. Not to mention, my real use will come from an entirely new sensor.

But I am pleased so far, lots to learn and adjust.

Definitely a learning curve. And some limitations of the XT-1. One of the reason I still use Nikon for my superteles.

yeah I think for my stuff I'll be fine.

I I might miss it for really wife landscapes. But I don't do a ton of that.

i would love to get the 100-400...but maybe rent it for fun later down the road.

It was one of the best sunsets I think I have ever seen. The way it evolved was amazing. Fraser Valley, BC. You can see some of the Vancouver skyline in the middle.

Had a chance to play with a 5D4 today, here are a couple quick sample images.

These are single frame shots, edited basic with Canon DPP (Lightroom won't read the files) and then exported to TIF and imported and tweaked a bit more in Lightroom, and exported to JPG. The lens was an older Sigma 24-70, not the best, just what we had to work with. Camera still did quite well, I enjoyed the feel and new shutter and action was also easily noticeable. Definitely a snappy camera for a full-frame in this range. Will I get one hmmm I am not in a hurry to, but playing with one did light sparks.

Nice, but why didn't you convert them to DNG and do all the editing in Lightroom? It's what I did when I tried out the 80D.

Or maybe the Adobe converter hasn't been updated yet

am I missing something? This is all the options I see in "Convert and Save" in DPP - it has the same options in Batch Process. This is the latest version of DPP from Canon site.

I tried Convert to DNG in LR at first and it looked promising but then it ended with the Could not be converted message......
