I shoot everything hand held with only the 600 EX for additional lighting, then edit in LR. In some ways I am a hack, but I have learned how to get the job done.

I wanted to get into that but the realtors here in Vancouver don't ever pay people for their listings, either because they are cheap asses AND/OR oftentimes things get sold sooooo fast, they don't even need to (pay someone, and just use their smartphones)

In 13 rolls of film being scanned, it will have paid for itself. $15 per roll for 5x7 quality TIFF is annoying. I will let them do the C41 or E6 processing for $4-$8 and scan it on my own.
Would you mind asking your friend if he uses Silverfast, Vuescan or the software that comes with the printer?
This is a whole different animal, but I really like the film process.
