For the resistor I went with 0.22ohm instead of 0.12ohm since I have switchbacks up front and rear led turn signals in my tail lights. If you're planning to only go with switchbacks up front, then 0.12ohm will be sufficient.

You guys should do the zkw-r lens swap. Makes the cutoff from the headlights sharper and improves clarity of light output.

I have a friend at Visions that can do a remote starter install for less than what you would be charged normally.

I got a Viper 2-way for my car, $500 cash. Normally over $800 for MT.

So you know how to install these switch backs? If I happen to run into any snags would some one mind helping?

I doubt you'll have any troubles with the switchback install itself. It's literally twist the stock bulb out and put the new one in. Accessed by pulling the liner back from the fender partially and reaching in behind the headlight. The harder part is locating the module where you need to swap resistors. I had Myron do it for me since I couldn't find the part.

So my car broke down this weekend. Was in a McDonald's drive thru when it happened, had to get pushed out. Some kind of issue with the clutch assembly and my 3rd gear syncro is also shot. Apparently that's a 13 hour job. The funny part is they didn't have a courtesy car available until Friday. After they found out the cost to me, they made a vehicle available to me tonight lol.
An easy $3200. Yay, just in time for Christmas!

2008 TL-S 6MT ASM

Only mods so far are ATLP cat-back with an XLR8 metal cat and an AEM V2 CAI.

It does suck, but they loaned me a 2012 TL. It shall be fun to play with

That sucks bud, hope it gets fixed quick! I might upgrade to the 4gen TL next year, that SH-AWD would come mighty helpful in this shitty weather...

Ouch that sucks man. how many km? I am guessing you never changed your tranny fluid with the GM syncronomesh stuff. I had a 3rd gear pop out problem on my car at 92000km. They said I need new tranny, and gave me some ridiculous $ amount. Changed it with that stuff, and I drove it for 65000km more without a single issue. I would look into it in the future especially if you drive the car hard.

No, but I have had the transmission fluid changed before. In addition Honda apparety changed what they were using in the tranny. I'm close to 160k on the car, but I definitely had some issues before. I even brought it in to Acura and they could never replicate the issue. So they leave it at that.

Luckily I have the money in the bank, so it's not that big of an issue for me. Some of the work they are doing is an eventuality. Better now than never!

yea I had the same issue, I went to Honda at 92000km, still having warranty on the car to look at the 3rd gear. They said they could replicate it, but they couldn't confirm if the previous owner did a tranny fluid change at 60 000km as required apparently so they voided my warranty and said they can change it for 3000$. They changed the fluid and a week later I had a 3rd gear popping out again. Got the GM fluid and that was the end of that problem. And honda didn't change anything in that fluid, it's bullshit man.

Funny thing is, when I walked into a GM dealership and asked for Syncronomesh Friction modified tranny fluid, guy knew I drove a honda haha

What is the cost to replace the fluid?
Is it an easy swap?
I drive a base TL 6spd , and wondering if this will make shifts smoother as well.

I did it myself, it's pretty much as easy as changing the oil. It will be MUCH MUCH smoother shifting.

I believe it's made by ACDELCO now and it should still say Friction Modified on the bottle.

just one of the threads I seen, there is many more on this

Thanks a bunch Myron.
that was very helpful.
seems that ACDelco relabels theirs, which is exactly the same as the GM fluid.
They just slap a ACDelco sticker over the GM bottle.haha.
according to the diy link, its only a 1/2 hour job.
I will be looking into this for sure!
Thanks all

yea AC Delco bought that stuff out, never messed with a formula, just put a new sticker on it and that's it. I swear by this stuff, I used it and it helped. I sold the TL 3 years ago almost and they guy is still driving it with no issues.

I think your manual suggests when to change your transmission fluid as well.

Myron, I certainly believe you and was going to switch over, but the issues I was having kinda disappeared for awhile. Would you suggest doing a 3x3 since you're swapping fluids or just do a drain and fill?

Jriddle - I've had my car since it was brand new, lived in fort Mac for 2 years. Put 50k on it easy in 1.

So I picked my car up Wednesday night, talk about getting parts fast and getting her done. They claimed the rear main seal was leaking and managed to get a lot of the work covered under warranty. I only ended up paying for the clutch assembly - $730 out of my pocket. My clutch engages a lot closer to the floor, and I'm pretty sure that's what it was like brand new!

I am not sure on the 3x3, I didn't do it that way. All I did was drain, refill, drive. I think 3x3 is for the automatics, but I am not sure. In all honesty, it wouldn't hurt at all if you do it that way for peace of mind. you pay a little extra but you don't have to do it often so who cares.
And that's great that you only had to pay 730$, pretty lucky.

I could PM you a friends number. He works at Visions but is quite experienced and does the work under the table. So you save money. Cash only obviously. Let me know if you're interested.

sorry man, I won't be able to do anything in the next few weeks. I am spending my weekends in a German language class, and week days won't work for me due to work training on new software. So until Christmas I am busy, and during Christmas Holidays, lets face it, I will be drunk. But I will keep you posted if anything changes

Hello All,

Just got my first Acura a few months ago. It's an 05 RL with 154,000 km so I have been fixing several little things and getting this car back to where I want it. I would love to find a good, reasonable mechanic if you have any advice. I have a clunk in the front end that sounds like a loose suspension part or something. Had it checked out at Wilson Auto Tech and they don't know what it is.

Merry Christmas

Probably just a bushing between the strut and coil that is worn.

get some coilovers and that slam the car, that might fix the problem. It could also be the front sway bar end link. I know that I mine was making a clunking noise as well when it went.

Oh good luck, parts for the RL are very expensive due to the car being one of Acura's worst sold so take care of the RL while you have it.
