Unhappy When will they learn???

My mother just got a new, 2012 CTS coupe about a month or two ago. Beautiful car. Outfitted to the nines with pretty much everything. Performance Package. Nav. Recaros. Sunroof. I would do naughty things to this thing if it was a living woman. But I digress.


My mom and dad are always ones to take good care of their cars (albeit they still could use some coaching on truly "proper" care). Always hand washed. Matching towels to put on the floor to help cleaning and prevent any bad stains. No food. Etc etc.

A few weeks after they got the car, they noticed the paint felt a little "gritty". They were told it was rail dust from transport. So they gave the car to the dealership to clay the car. Needless to say, the damage was horrendous.

The hood and roof was what they mainly worked on. It made me want to cry and it's not even my car. There's a very slight, subtle elevated ridge going down the center of the CTS hood that was nearly dull looking because of the damage done.


So starting last night, and I'll finish up today, I began to correct the problem. I don't think I'll be able to get 100% out as I only have a PC and I don't have anywhere near the skill that some of you folks in hear have...but I think I should be able to get out at least a good 95%.

Here's a side by side of a first pass after stepping up to a yellow pad with SIP. (just a shitty iPhone pic, my apologies)







The majority would come out with orange, but there were some stubborn ones that just weren't budging. So I had to go up to yellow, then I'll have to step back down to finish it off.


I don't know how many times I've told them before to never let a dealership touch their car. Even for a "pre-delivery detail" as I know the damage they can do. I've told them to only let me or a professional detailer work on their car. And yet they still didn't listen. The dealership suggested that the clear coat might have failed (which is why they work at a dealership, not a detail shop). They also said they could wax it to cover it up but they'd come back. They wanted to use a wax with filler just to hide the problem but not fix it.

I think they might finally listen this time...my mother was livid after she first saw the damage.

dealers...please...don't wash or touch the car! my first rule. my SA knows it too. he tells the tech not to bother wiping his paw prints off my car (i take it to them washed) since i'll take care of it before i leave the lot.

I printed this out, had it laminated and always hang it on my car when I took it to get serviced at the dealer. They are just horrible at washing and detailing.

I didn't know dealerships even carry clay bars. Unless that's just another name for rotary, wool pad, and filler.

I know of some dealerships that hire semi/pro detailer's to do cars that need to detailed.
