steel wool on windows

In a previous life..(when I was 19) I worked at a car detail shop where we used steel wool on windows to get the water spots off. I was wondering what type of steel wool this was. Is there only one type? is there a FINE steel wool that would work well?
not planning to bust out an SOS pad on my car, but as I bought my TL used, it has seen better days.

has any detailer on ACURAZINE used this trick?

Clay won't do diddly for those hard, mineral deposits.

Just use a car polish on the window. I do it to bring back some clarity even though paint polishes won't remove SCRATCHES from windows as they require a special product. But a paint polish will remove water etch marks fine from windows...

You can try it .. lots of things will work but it all depends on the minerals in the water spots themselves.

In town we have treated river water that will spot if it dries but it will wash off ... 4 miles from here they use well water thats treated and if it gets on the glass it steel wool... polish will work on it if its course and on a yellow pad on a PC but takes a while.
