Should I clay bar already?

Just picked up my car used almost 4 months ago and it has 21K on it. I waxed it with Mother's Pure Carnauba Paste Wax about 2 months and I frequently wash my car and try to keep it clean. I just bought Meguiar's NXT Tech Wax Paste and I was wondering if I should clay the car first or should I just apply the NXT? My cars paint is still in great condition and shines great. Here's a picture I took 1 week ago of my car.

Why not? Claying is fast and easy if you do it right. My TL is only 2-1/2 months old, I clayed it the other day. Most of the car was clean. I was amazed at what came off the lower portions of the car. Rocker panels, front and rear bumpers.

Claying wont hurt anything, just make sure you use plenty of QD spray, shouldn't be hardly any drag.

I'd say you're ripe for a nice clay job. Like the others have said, it's easy and the payoff in depth of shine and smoothness of paint is big. There's no real downside.

Go for it!

Thanks for all the replies and thanks dmarcus48 for the QD tip I know that clay baring your car is definitely a good thing and I do plan on doing it. I just figured since the car's paint is pretty new and hasn't been exposed to the elements as much that maybe I could wait. But I know what you guys are saying; its one extra step that gives great results. I actually tried to pick up the cay bar set but it was sold out, I'm going to try a different location. If all goes well, then tomorrow I'm planning to spend all day on my exterior.

- Bug/Tar Remover
- Wash
- Clay
- Wash
- Meguiars NXT Paste
- 10" Buffer w/ Terry&Micro

This is my first time clay baring my car and using a buffer. So I'm hoping everything turns out well

If you're gonna clay and you're going with Megs, I would highly suggest using the DC System consisting of DC Paint Cleaner and DC System Polish prior to applying NXT. I think you're gonna love the results.

I have to say, you made me laugh. But I guess with our age differences I'm OK with Pops. LOL

Nice shots, great reflectivity. Let us know how the NXT holds up. From my experience, it usually lasts around 5-6 weeks before it loses its slickness. Rejuvenate finish using a QD/ID after washing to extend longevity. You can also top it with a 'nuba to give it a more "wet" look. Welcome to the world of detailing.

Your car looks terrific, Haste! BTW, even new paint can pick up particulate matter, in transport and just from pollution in general. It's best to get on this stuff early and nip it in the bud. Makes the job easier.

Nice job with the car. I may have to give the NXT a try.

Stupid Question

I know this is dumb. I really have been reading alot about using Clay. When you "clay a car", do you do the whole car or just areas that you can feel the surface particulate matter?

Thanks

Joe

If this is the first time, I would recommend doing the entire car so you'll have a clean surface to work with. You'll feel a slight drag/resistance when you encounter particulate matter and after a few swipes the clay will just glide over the surface. The next time you clay, the process will be easier.

Thanks for all the comments guys I really want to wash my car again because I still have little wax pieces everywhere! After the wash I'll go over it with Mothers Showtime Instant Detailer, then I can rest for a bit

Haha, I knew someone would catch that. After all the work I took the pictures put everything away and went inside. Then I realized that I missed the tires, so I went back out and finished the job
