Removing Dust.
Removing Dust.
Hello,
I was just curious what you all use to remove dust in between washes? I've noticed that if I use quick detailers, it seems as if the dust build up is quicker. Anyway, I was just wondering what a safe, effective product is to remedy my problem.
Also, can you apply someting like a quick detailer to car that is covered in dust, or will this cause paint scratches?
Thanks!

Also, instead of making a new thread, I thought I'd ask another question here. I noticed that in Wes NSX thread (black NSX detailed), he washed the car a second time with prep wash to remove the polish residue/oils. Is this always necessary? I guess my quesiton is, if I wash my car, clay it, use the optimum polish, and then four star UPP, do I need to wash my car after the optimum polish, or can I just immediately apply the wax/sealant?
Well, you can use a duster to remove dust or QD and a MF. It really depends on how bad it is but if it is kind of bad, your best bet is doing an ONR wash or traditional wash. ONR washes are pretty simple on a well-maintained (protected) vehicle. It usually results to very minimal agitation due to the ONR doing its job.
As for prepping your car for its LSP, your best bet is to get the paint's surface as clean as possible (hence why Wes did a paint cleansing wash) to ensure proper adhesion of your LSP. With that being said, you're almost guaranteed in enjoying a much longer lifespan of your LSP remaining on your vehicle.

My experience on a polished out well cared for black Passat ( very hard clear ) is even with minimal dust and a high end M/F towel and good QD your going to marr.
As for the cleansing wash before the LSP if I am using the Optimum polishes I use an AIO like Poliseal or Klasse AIO prior to the LSP. If not that at least a 50/50 rubbing alcohol & water wipe down.

It obviously wouldnt hurt, but Im too anal anyway. Durability isnt really an issue, as I love using QD's and spray waxes a part of maintenance anyway.
A little IPA (as Dale mentioned) in a spray bottle prior to using your LSP will certainly save you time......
I think in general though, most sealants and waxes contain some type of designer oils in their physical makeup anyway. I dont really see it as being an issue for adhesion. Polishes and protectant are brother/sister products (same family) anyway, and made to be used together. JMO
