Removing brake dust from wheels

I apologize if this has been a repost but this got me really annoyed as my OEM wheels seem to be absolutely ruined with caked in dust. Was busy with other things and just could not wash them every week, so the dust had settled in and can't figure out what to use to remove it with.

So, looking for a suggestion on the chemical that safely works with Acura stock wheels....not looking to burn thru the clear coat, you know.

eagle one all purpose wheel cleaner i think. it should be safe.

it should be available at any auto store. i think it's called a2z all wheel cleaner. it works great for an otc product. just spray, let sit, scrub and rinse off.

Eagle One A2Z wheel and tire cleaner works well on my Carbon Bronze TL-S wheels as well.

Can't recommend their tire shine though. As soon as it gets wet, it looks worse than before I cleaned them.

Don't want to hijack your post, but does anyone recommend a good tire shine that resists rain?

I have not used anything better than P21S wheel cleaner. Brake dust has no chance if you spray it on and let it set for a couple of minutes.

I recently tried ArmorAll's Wheel Protectant. This little bottle is like magic. Spray it on your rim after its' dry and clean, let sit for about an hour. Presto....no more brake dust on your rims. I'm not kidding, this stuff is awesome. I have a TL Type S, so I know what I'm talking about when it comes to brake dust. It works great. Wally's World has it for 6.99 or so....

Sonax Wheel Cleaner full effect

The best of both worlds; the cleaning power of an acid wheel cleaner with a (safe) pH of 7.5 by using a neutralised acid salt; neutralization is the reaction between an acid and a base (alkaline) producing a salt and neutralized base; common examples include acetic acid and sulphuric acid (hence the red colour, which is a chemical reaction (oxidisation) with the metal particles) forming a miscible emulsion that can be rinsed away and the smell (sulphur) It starts off green, then red and then to blood red, leave it on for a minute, agitate and rinse.

+1. Highly recommended. I actually just spent about two hours cleaning my wheels- inside and out, etc. They look brand new. What a difference it makes to the appearance of the car.

As for tire shine- I use ArmorAll tire foam. Love it. Their wheel cleaner and tire foam are the only two products of their's that I use.

Love my S100. It's the cheaper version of P21S.

I unbolted my rims from my car and cleaned the entire rims up, here is a before and after shot...

I used the stuff called "Purple Power" it's used to degrease stuff, but works just as well for cleaning the rims...even though it's clearly states on the bottle NOT to use on rims but haha it worked well.

It would of even came out better, if I hadn't run out of the chemical .

OK...I've got a bottle of this and was going to take it back. I was scared to try it. But if you guys like it, I'll give it a shot. No problem with the Brembo's?

Hmm my car doesn't have brembos, but I really can't see this stuff doing much harm to anything. The bottle says to wear gloves and eye protection when applying- I didn't. The stuff was all over my hands and well...nothing happened. I highly suggest removing all loose break dust with a rag first, then spraying this stuff and scrubbing with a sponge.

I'm going to run down to my garage to take some pics of my clean wheels.

A) My brakes are disgusting- I know they need to be painted. Soon.
B) I know there's curbage. Previous owner.
C) I know the "A" in my center caps are white. No clue.

This was all done with the armor-all stuff, two rags, and a sponge. The change is dramatic. I'm amazed by how clean they look, in particular the insides. They were filthy. I'm painting my wheels gunmetal later this spring.

I used the Armourall Wheel Protectant last night and let it dry overnight. We've got a lot of rain in Kansas City today, so I can't tell exactly how well it is working.
