Rain-X

Just a reminder - Use your Rain-X.

I just did a clean and polish on my wife's car and
was saddened to see the glass etching.

My TSX glass is looking spanking new at 9 months
and 3 Rain-X applications.

I've used Rain-x since day one. I only do the "wiper outline" of the windshield. If I put it where the wipers swipe they will chatter.

What I call etching is the permanent water spots on glass. I lived in the piedmont of NC and the acid rain there
will ruin a car in a week, that's where I learned about Rainx
to prevent etching on the glass.

Is it really permanent? Is there any way to remove it? Not even RainX after that?

I too live in NC. A cop friend of mine had such bad water marks on his cruiser that the glass almost looked frosted and felt like fine grit sandpaper -- not good. My accord has a new windsheild (that already got scratched) but I use Rain-X and like it. Works great on side windows -- makes them as slick as the paint. I like the idea of doing just the wiper outline cause yes they will chatter sometimes.

I love rain-x. I just put it on my car for the first time this week.

I don't seem to have problems with glass etching here, but I do have this tendancy to stare at the water droplets travel along the glass, distracting me from the road.

The Rain-X washer fluid works well. There's winter (de-icer) and summer (bug-guts-dissolver) formulas and both have the magic water-beading juice that keeps them streak-free.

I really doubt rain-x prevents etching of glass... in fact the strongest acids are stored in glass bottles. just a thought.

rain-x is from satan. i hate that crap. left some film on my first car that stayed on my first car until i sold it. you basically have to keep reapplying it for the life of your car. if you let it wear off, your windshield goes to hell.

Thanks for warning bondgrrl. Amongst all you autopian carcaregeeks, I was beginning to wonder if I was negligent in failing to apply RainX. We dont seem to have the acid rain problem in Texas.

Nah, you just use some white vinegar and it'll take it off.

look if you want you window clean, do a search on this forum.

i use rain-x windshield wiper fluid, not the rain-x crap that you apply on your windshield because it does leave a film behind.

the rain-x windshield wiper fluid on the other hand does a really good job.

to clean the window, i use stoner's invisible glass with b&w newspaper. the window's are so clean that at times they appear left open. as for rain, i hardly ever have to use my wipers, the water just bead right off (because it's a clean surface, no rain-x). if i have to use the wipers and spray, the fluid works great at removing anything that might have go stuck to the windshield plus the beading continues.

i read about rain-x but have not tried yet. i had a bottle of rain-away from years ago and it still works. i need to re-apply every 2-3 month but it does not leave any film, just lost the some beading effect. i was about to try rain-X but maybe i shall stay with the rain-away!!!

the rainx film is annoying, it goes away in a day or so,
at least next time the car is washed.

I just had spotting on my glass from the Mother's clay bar
lubricant overspray, it wouldn't wash off and I had to
do another rainx to remove it. I'll note how long the film
lasts.

It does prevent permanent water marks. Every
2-3 months seems to be enough protection. I wax my car
at least every 3 months and do rainx then.

I use rainx wiper fluid too but that won't protect the rest
of the glass.

Actually the rainX wiper fluid is worse. I detailed a black Montero for a girl that used the stuff and you could see where it got on the hood around the nozels and dulled the finish. It's just my advise, but I would stick with the rainX you apply to the glass yourself.

maybe she doesn't double clutch and that's what's causing the problem.

anyway, i would like to add that i've been using rain-x wiper fluid for about 4 years without any problems. does a great job of getting rid of anything that gets splattered on the windshield and does really well in the winter time.

now the rainX stuff that you apply leaves a film that is quite annoying when driving at night (oncoming cars).

i still think the best solution is to clean your window using invisible glass.

i tried the rainX wiper fluid and it doesnt seem that bad...but ur right, it does leave some sort of residue...not sure if i'm going to buy another gallon or just use the regular blue wiper fluid and apply rainX manually. i'll have to see how lazy i feel...

are you using winter blend (rain-x wiper fluid) which is orange in color or are you using the summer blend which is pink in color?

i have tried both and the orange stuff does leave more of a residue but i think it's because they put something in it so that it doesn't freeze. now the only place i see residue is on the side (driver's side) window. I don't get anything on the hood.
