Can your car really dry itself?

Rain-x claims that its car wash allows the car to dry itself, anyone used this product?

http://www.rainx.com/frame_auto_carwash.htm

How about the wax that "creates a barrier between your car and the enviorment?"

i have a feeling that the car itself then wont have water spots, but the 'barrier' will.....I wouldnt want to test their claim on my car. Thats for sure.

I saw this informercial last night for this product that is a one step wash/wax thing that doesn't use water. I can't remember the name, but they had a dirty red covette, & this guy wiped it down, & clean, with this towel looking thing with no water. You get like 5 of them in a pack. It was some mirofiber techonolgy thing.

I have a friend who is a Mobile Car detailer, and he says that there is a product that you can put in your water tank that will cause the water to sheet right off, so you don't have to dry it. But he said that it is too expensive for him to make it worth while. So he still hand dries the cars by hand, and I've rode around with him in the winter. And I don't have a clue how he can stand to have wet hands in 30 degree weather. I thought my hands were going to fall off.

I've only got 2 things to say about rainx:

1) The rainx commercial that I saw this weekend has a CL in it

2) I've heard that if you rub a raw peeled potato on your windshield it will dispell water like rainx does (maybe not as good, but hey, the price is right)

I've heard that its difficult to get rainx off once its on. I would be very careful and make sure you really want this stuff on your car.

I use that car wash sometimes (if I'm in a rush) and it works awesome! You can see the water sheet away and there are NO spots. It was like $5, so go buy some and try it.

I don't think that it will stop water spots. Water spots are caused by the impurities in water that is left behind after the water evaporates. Unless there is some magic here (no, there isn't), I don't see it. Maybe a water wetter could help make the water easier to get off fast, but still ...

Cool that they have a CLS in the commercial though!!!

Can I use half a peeled potato? Food is hard to come by with the economy in a slump and all...

Yes you can. Usually the potato is cut in half, so that you get a nice flat surface on the potato to apply to the windsheild. What you do to the other half is up to you

Using newspapers to wipe windows to avoid streaking is another low budget trick. VW owners are notoriously "frugal", so I've learned alot of these things in my travels.

Another one from the "bookmark" files:

To remove rust spots from a chrome car bumpers: Briskly scrub rust spots on car bumpers with a piece of crumpled aluminum foil, shiny side up. For stubborn spots rub the bumper with a crumpled-up piece of aluminum foil dipped in Coca-Cola. This also works well on the chrome shafts of golf clubs

Ask me sometime about how to remove rusty bolts w/ paraffin wax

LOL, most of you dont know shit

Most of you guys dont know shit about Rain-X, im a Rain-X supporter/Customer....

Let me tell you, on my Black Gtz Galant, it works marvelous
it takes some time to practice casue you got to wash it a certain way..., and it works great when done correctly.

Im usually too lazy to wax my baby so i just Rain-X wash it and itll stay clean for 1 week or so...

The system works great in Florida Weather so i would suggest it to anyone who wants to cut time in 1/2 and it does wash off for those who think it is permanent
