Question about Detailing Engine bay

can i use the spray guns at the manual car washes to do a one time detail of my 99 TL's engine bay without having to worry about water damage or water getting into interal parts.

i have no aftermarket parts under the hood as it is a new purchase.

the owner kept good care of the car. but was apparently not interested in what the engine looked like as long as it ran.

any answer would be great.

thanks guys

i wouldnt power wash it, u could damage sensors and or rip stuff up if not care full. i just use some engine degreaser with a hose and then some engine detailer.

It is completely fine to power wash the engine. Just dont hold the stream on wires or sensors longer than nessesary.

I detail professionally, and do it to EVERY car. Degrease and pressure wash.

DO NOT pressure wash your engine bay, your wiring/connectors , alternator and starter will hate you.

diluted simple green in a spray bottle and just plain water in another spray bottle....plus some rags.

1) spray simple green on warm engine
2) scrub with rags/brushes
3) rinse with spray bottle of water
4) wait for it to dry or start engine to speed up the process
5) tire shine the plastic and rubber
6) enjoy pimp ass engine bay

I use product by Griots Garage - Engine Cleaner, similiar to Simple Green but specific for engine grease, leaves it spanking new when use as 'blu by u' mentioned however I IMMEDIATELY use a air blower (simple Toro $30 Home Depot special) to blow out excess water immediately.

i use the gunk degreaser and let it sit for 10min then hose it down and it gets all the grease off. if u have a dirty engine bay u might had to use some rags to clean some spot) and then i hit it with CD2 engine detailer and it looks better than new and it just stands out.

What has always worked well for me is while the engine is cold, spray simple green (undiluted) on everywhere in the engine bay, including the areas on the sides which just have road dirt, and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes. Then give it another spray on top of it and go ahead and use a regular garden hose to spray out the entire area. I usually do this just before I am about to wash the car so that any of the overspray that gets on the car is taken care of immediately. It is amazing what the engine bay looks like afterwards because it is so clean and looks stock original instead of the shiny, glaze look that some engine bays look like after detailing. Good luck.

Unless you hold it 6 inches from all that, it wont hurt ANYTHING.

Detailing is my job, I've done it for years with ZERO issues. Just happy customers.

Using the pressure washer on your engine bay is fine. I've done it to mine numerous times.

Are there any things I should cover before washing the engine? I don't want to screw up anything.

what i did was..

cover the sensors with foil... along with battery to....

then... since the bay hasn't been touched for... 6 years??

i sprayed engine degreaser EVERYWHERE!

then i sprayed simple green all purpose cleaner and used a brush to brush the dirt out.. every little place i could.. then i pressure hosed it from a distance...

got out my industrial air blower and dried it.. watever water was left, i used a towel...

brought it inside my garage... got some tire shine and sprayed everything.. then just wiped off wherever i sprayed too much.
