Salty Interior
Hey All,
I've searched the forum and haven't found anything on Salt removal from the carpet. For those of you who deal with winter, what do you use to remove the salt from the carpets?
Thanks

IF you car wash does not have this machine, I would go to Wal-mart, go to the automotive aisle, and look for a rug cleaner, Its in a can with like a brush on top, buy it, works really well, go home, clean the rugs first with a vacuum, then use this can cleaner, scrub the rugs, and then take the valcuum and go over everything you just did. I dont think they will be that wet to damange the vacuum. They will Look like brand new, and will smell great!!!
Hope this helps, enjoy!
Removing (Interior) Road Salt Stains:
Use a stiff brush to dislodge any loose road salt and then vacuum, spray the area with a carpet cleaner and let it soak in, rinse with plenty of water and repeat until most of the stain has been lifted.
Finally clean carpets by spraying the area with a carpet shampoo rinse and then remove with a carpet extractor.
Salt is inert but be aware that once you add water ( by meting the snow / ice ) to salt it becomes alkaline (corrosive) take care to dry the affected area thoroughly after the salt has been removed and neutralize it with an mild acid (vinegar) Spray vinegar, agitate, allow to dwell and then use an extractor. Actually, any mildly acidic product should neutralize alkaline salt crystals, hydrochloride etc
