Porter Cable Purchase
My Acurazine sisters & brothers from other mothers!
The time has come for me to get a PC/UDM.
I couldn't afford a new one but did find a used one that includes:
1 Porter Cable 7336SP Buffer
1 Velcro Backing Plate
2 Yellow Cutting Pads both used, but in great condition
2 White Polishing Pads, 1 used, other brand new
2 Black Finishing Pads both brand new
1 Wrench to tighten or remove the backing plate
Thoughts and/or comments?
And advantages/disadvantages over the PC 7424?

About this model...
Porter-Cable 7336SP
Variable-Speed Random-Orbit Sander (6") with Polishing Pad.
With the Porter-Cable 7336SP polisher, fears of polishing are a thing of the past.
Unlike circular buffers and lesser-quality random-orbital polishers, the 7336SP is easy to use and safe on your paint- even for the amateur.
This is a dual-action polisher: it oscillates in a random, orbital fashion, preventing excessive heat buildup.
This polisher will not burn your paint.
The 3.7 amp motor includes a variable speed mechanism which allows you to control the speed between 2,500 OPM and 6,000 OPM.
An important component of this tool, which separates Porter-Cable from most of its competition, is the removable counterweight.
The counterweight is located in the rotating shaft and maintains balance while you polish.
Unlike the Porter-Cable 7424 polisher, the 7336SP comes with a specially-balanced counterweight which is required as you switch to denser/larger non-OEM pads.
The flexibility of the 7336SP allows for a variety of pads up to 6 ½ inches.
It comes with a white polishing pad that works well at minor oxidation, swirls and light scratches.
While excellent at polishing, this pad is also soft enough to be used for finishing and glazing.
This tool is so easy and safe you will regret not having added it to your detailing supply box sooner.
Finally, a polisher you don¿t have to fear!
Please note: This unit does not include a hook and loop backing plate.

Noah, there is no difference from the 7424 to the 7336 s/p. Identical machines other then the counterweight, with is of little relevance with the pads your using. You may "consider" a #5 CW for the 5" pads though. Some folks dont really detect a difference. But they made two size CW's for a reason.
Price really depends on its history which unfortunately, your not going to know.
i would say,$100.00 shipped? What size pads included? What size BP and what type BP? Flexible or rigid?

Thanks Patrick...
So you don't rec. using 6" pads but rather 5"?
I don't know what the hell I am talking about...? lol
CW...but with the specs...it said 6" pads...so does it have a 6 CW?

It depends Noah. I actually started with the first generation Propel pads and those were actually 7"! However, I was still able to get decent correction "back in the day" haha. Ideally though, the smaller the pad, the more correction power you're able to achieve from the PC.
On a somewhat similar note, this is apparently the contrary when using the Kevin Brown method. A larger pad will actually produce more correction due to a larger surface area being applied to the paint's surface.
I don't know, it's up to your preference really Noah.

She deserves better.

In addition...he has all the manuals, original box, which tends to make me believe it has been at least somewhat cared for.
On the BP (Backing Plate) I'll have to ask.
This is what it looks like:

Can you tell from that...?

So how much are you getting this for Noah? Oh and what does your equipment/product list look like right now? I can tell you right now that you'll need some polishes and I'm not sure if you have those already or not.

Hmm, those pads look like LC VC (variable contact) foam pads. That one white pad looks pretty beat up but I'm sure it's still mechanically fine.

I have no product list...because I never had this equipment before.
Just generic car cleaning stuff before...like Meguiar's wax, stuff like that..
Well list those generic/OTC items anyway so you don't go out and buy something that you may already have. I'll come up with a short list for you as soon as you respond.
I would seriously consider other pads. You more than likely would not replace that style once they are shot, so why get acclimated to them?
Even if you grab some from the paint shop, shoot for flat surfaced pads.....

Oh...well seriously I have probably a bunch of crap so I would get new stuff.
I have no polish...just Gold Class Wax...detailing sprays...other misc. garbage.
I just need to know what basics I need to get in the door to detail my car.
I understand...that is too vague of a question but don't know how to ask a better one.

I have no polishes, compounds, etc...have none of those things if that helps.
I have TR-3 Cleaner...Meguiar's Paint Cleaner, Meg. Gold Class Wax,
Some SC products...detailing & wax sprays (Opt, Meg, SC) and just some other random stuff.
Like I said...nothing that will help in this case except for maybe the Opt. Spray Wax.

Right on...
Some samples might be a good way to try something out.
Probably needs a compound because I don't believe the car has ever been detailed.
I clean it weekly but the paint itself has been neglected from before I owned it.
I have some Microfibers but maybe I should pick some more up because I always feel like I am running out.
I clayed before but will need to clean again because I didn't follow up with the nec. steps afterwards.
That was lack of experience talking...

I have a bottle of 32oz poliseal you can take off my hands for cheap. I only used maybe 3oz of it if that. It's a finishing polish that offers protection as well
Yours for 14$, it's 19+ship from pat (sorry to steal your thunder pat haha, but i dont think i'll be ever using this, especially with this sexy new OF)

Thanks man...UPS just delivered today!
I got to do some research on it.
I'm not familiar with it or what it does.
But I'm interested.

He used the poli-seal with a orange pad -- I havn't been that creative to try this out, but it seems like a great idea, and would probably do corrections similar to a OP on a white pad I'm guessing. If you don't want it thats fine, I'm actually interested in trying it out with the orange pad since my OP bottle is running low

To be quite honest, I haven't really found much use to PS as well. The only time I could see using it is for the really cheap clients that want a quick once over and that's what PS would provide... very minimal correction and a little bit of protection.

I wouldn't say that I don't want it...just am not familiar with it.
I just got my PC today...so I just am way "out of the loop" as to what does what.
So everything I purchase has to be researched...basically.
I'm going to be picking up some samples from Denzil this weekend so I'll let you know after that.
But nevertheless I appreciate the offer.

poliseal has its place, but its on a very well prepped finish....its an all in one product that cleans, polishes and protects...it makes a really nice base to apply a sealant to after a proper polish....and it does do a small amount of correcting....
i wouldnt suggest using an orange pad with it, if you needed an orange pad, then you should step up to the correct polish for the job....i would use it with a black, or maybe a white as the most agressive pad for poliseal....
