Paint job gone terrible
Paint job gone terrible
FYI,
So I took my car to a friend of mine's friend to have the scrathes as a result of somebody keying my car taken out. Basically, I priced it around and was quoted anywhere from $1500 to $3000 to fix the car, because just about half of the car had to be painted. The whole left and ride side, fenders, doors, and quarter panels and all. So this 'friend' said he could do it out of his garage for $700. Wow!!!! $700 to fix the car, that means I would be saving thousands. To good to be true right? So I left my car with him, he said he would wetsand everything, spray it with 'factory paint' and clear coat and the whole nine yards. He said it would take 2 days to paint and then another day to dry. So you figure 3 days, maybe 4 in total. Day 6 comes and I contact him like I have been doing the whole week. He said my car was ready to go and looked amazing, as if you could never tell there was anything wrong with it. When I get there, the first thing I noticed is that the front right fender still has the scratch in it. I brought it to his attention and he said he didn't realize it and to bring it back to him in 2 or 3 days so he could correct it. The car looked good, no scratches, no obvious blemishes, nothing that my eyes could see in his garage. So when I get home and pull it in the driveway, I get out, all happy and everything that I am not driving around with deep scratches anymore, and I look at the left rear quarterpanel and notice how horrible it looks in the sun. There was no shine to the paint, in fact, no metallic blue in the paint either, which the nighthawk black has. I ran to the front of the car, and noticed the same thing. Then I went around the car, and the same exact problem the whole way around. After looking more closely, I noticed that my F**cking car wasn't even painted. This guy must have just compounded and buffed out my whole car. The black in the parts that he had to do is basically a flat black, with no shine to it at all. The paint in these areas looks like the paint off of a 10 year old car, or maybe older. And to make things worse, from the machine he was using to rub out the scratches, I found he nicked my rear spoiler with it, and took the paint off of that, too. To sum things up,I basically got my money back from the guy, and now the car will be off to a 'real' body shop, in which I will pay the 'real' price, and get a 'real' paint job, no a f**king buff job. Thats the last time I will try to save some money when it comes to my brand new TSX.

Yeah...add a little more to the 3k..you can have a different colored TSX than the rest of us..
That is definitely some
right there. At least you got your money back without getting $hit from that guy.
$3k seems to be a lot for repainting, but hopefully it will be a better paint job than the crappy factory job because I have more chips than Las Vegas! Maybe a custom color? I would seriously think about that....

The whole car doesn't have to be painted. Both the front fenders, the two rear doors, and the back left quarterpanel. If you notice though, the back left quarter panel also goes to the front of the car along side the roof, so I don't want any blending to be done, so each part has to be sprayed. Right now im in limbo because I am trying to decide if it is worth it to pay the $2000 or $3000 to do this. I mean the paint has lost its shine in those areas, but if you think about it, I can just keep it glazed all the time. And also, as upsetting as all of this is, I did the balloon financing on the car over 4 years, which as you all know is basically a lease, so I'm not sure if it is worth it to spend this extra money on a car that I am going to be giving back, you know what I mean?

Any time you wetsand and buff a car you fuck up the original orange peel of the car. That is precisely what happened here especially since he tried to buff out scratches that were too deep (obviously since the original competent shop saw this and told you that you need a refinish) and took off half the paint with it. Only some kind of mental midget would accomplish a feat like this. A good rule of thumb is that if your fingernail can catch the scratch than it is too deep. Otherwise it can be buffed out with a minimal difference in shine.

Jealous twits. Keying is exceptionally low.

If you are going to turn it in, like TRU said they are gonna charge you anyway if they see the paint is screwed up, so might as well get it fixed and enjoy the new paint job, better check though if the dealer will charge you if you change the color if your thinking custom color.
Also, Acura has the $2000 deductable. Basically you are aloud to bring the car back with $2000 worth of damage. But after thinking about it, I am going to be driving the car for the next 3 years, so I might as well paint it.
Just did a little searching and came across this thread:
http://www.acura-tsx.com/forums/show...ght=coat+paint
From the thread they are saying the NHBP (Black TSX) paint has blue flake or crushed synthetic pearl so be sure to find a paint shop that can match that OEM paint if you you have to return it to the dealer with the original color.
Good luck with the paint job! Post pics after the paint job in the gallery if you can!

basically you're not returning the car until 4 yrs from now, who knows what will happen next to your car. by that time maybe the car finish will all be dull or the dealer might not notice the problem. Of course if you really hate it now, you will repaint but it seems from your post you're not interested in spending that type of money.
Good body shops can order OEM paint from the manufacturer of the paint, or from a company that can duplicate the paint.
I had a bad bumper accident with my old Eclipse, replacing and painting a new bumper was 450.
I also had my Integra's hood keyed with the word "fuck" during HS (long story short, the guy didn't like me). It was 850 to replace the hood with a new one. Painting came to 700 (that special edition dark green was expensive I guess).
BTW, the bumper accident occurred on my way down to AZ, hit a cat doing 85mph. And a few of my buddies and I found the jerks car and covered it with bumper stickers all the way around the windows (civics are hard to cover with bumper stickers) and pissed on the car and left a polaroid of us pissing.
Junkster, who thinks revenge always makes sense

What sucked the worst about this incident with my car is the girl that did it,wasn't even one of my ex girlfriend's or anything. She was my buddies ex girlfriend, and she took them two breaking up out on me because he would be out partying every night with me. Things started to get a little out of hand, and to cool things off, my buddy threw me the money to have the car fixed, which was $700 for the guy that fucked up my car. So whatever else it is going to cost me is going to be out of my pocket, which is no big deal, since I got something from my friend. I did feel bad taking it, but in the same respect, if my girlfriend or ex girlfriend ever did that to one of my best friend's 1 month old car, I would have been the first to give him the money for it, because I would feel like shit that it happened to him.
And as for the paint, the code on the paint I believe is B92P, or BP92. Something along those lines. You can either get it from Acura, or if you can find a paint store, they have it available. I was pricing the paint when this first happened and for a quart it can go anywhere from $80 to $120. The nighthawk black pearl is only a two step process, the paint and the clear coat. The metallic blue is already in the black.

y didnt u go through ur insurance company? its an act of vandalism that someone keyed your car, so all u should be doing is paying the deductible.
see the thing is, im only 19 and the car is under my name, so in order to save some money, i have a $1000 deductable, so it wouldn't have even paid for me to go threw insurance and then have my insurance go up and pay the deductable
That would be a comprehensive claim, which is generally somthing that isnt your fault (car broken into, vandal, tree falls on it, etc...). Your premium wouldnt have gone up. Should have called them first to at least check. Probably wouldnt hurt to try, but since that other toolbag tried to fix your car already, the adjustor would probably give it :thumbsdn:
