Waxmaster sucks. I have one. It's collecting dust in the garage.

Go out and get the Porter Cable 7424 orbital polisher. It is by far the best "home user" model out there.

You can get it for $119 at Coastal Tool

Extremely easy to use. Almost idiot-proof.

If you use Zaino you won't need an orbital waxer. Not only that but you have a black car. Get ONE piece of grit on your car or in the pad and you'll have swirl city goin' on. Personally I wouldn't do it. I had a black accord and an electric buffer I was very careful with but still ended up w/ swirl marks.

I have the cable porter one from Meguires (they just repackage it with their name on it and include a bunch of products with it when you buy it). It's random action so it doesn't just spin around and around. I use it on all colors for the tough jobs (when I see a few little scratches or want to use a 3 step) and never get any swirl marks even on a black car. I am happy with the results always.

orbital buffers are safe for the car. Anyone can use them safely.

High-speed buffers are the ones to watch out for. Those if not used properly with the right pad and wax/chemical, can damage your paint like Raptors.

Before you even start waxing your car, you should be sure you have no particles on there. Claying the car beforehand really does help. I have the Porter Cable that NSXNEXT is talking about, and it's really great.

Will not hurt it. Only Highspeeds not done right will. I used orbital for years on black cars without any problems.

Zaino w/ ZFX is so easy to apply and remove that I really don’t understand the need to use ANYTHING with a cord on it for detailing.

I just put a coat on my car Sunday and it only took about an hour.

Where did you hear that? I just bought the 7424 for the purpose of buffing swirls out of black cars. Everyone I have talked to says a orbital buffer with proper pads will take many of the swirls out.

dude, i wouldnt listen to everyone here.. im not saying i know all, but i used to detail for 4 years. if you know what you are doing then it is perfectly safe to buff your car IF YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING!!!!!!!!! that is the key element. make sure you know proper techniques and have good equipment.

If you decide to go for it get a DEWALT buffer, those are the best as far as my experience goes and i have used alot of them. also, if you arent to experienced with a buffer, stay away from flat surfaces such as the hood and the trunk... i think that is what others are talking about "scraching the shit out of their cars." the rest of your car should come out great.

Truthfully, I would spend the 80-100 for a professional exterior detail if you are not fully confident with your skills. goodluck

Peaceout

I sure hope you didn't buy that from them. You are paying almost $100 for a shipping box that says Griot's Garage. The PC in that link is the same one that sells for ~$100 at Coastal Tool.

Yeah, you get a "plastic case" and that "special" adaptor plate is just a sanding plate that you can get from the manufacturer (a guy over on the Autopia forum has the "goods" on Griot's "special backing plate" story).

Get it from Coastal Tool -- not Griot's...

good thread. But isn't there anything that takes the elbow grease out of a 2hour+ zaino job and cuts down time?

That should be the next Zaino product challenge.

from zainobros.com
Q: Can I use an orbital polisher to apply/remove Zaino polish?

A: Yes, you can use an orbital to apply Zaino Z-2, Z-3, or Z-5. I don't recommend it because you waste too much polish that way. The pad on an eleven inch polisher can absorb almost enough polish to coat your entire vehicle. Each time you use an orbital to apply Zaino polish, you are probably wasting as much polish, if not more than you actually applied to the car.

Zaino polish applies easily by hand, especially if you dampen the applicatorpad with water and spritz it with Z-6 before applying it.

If you use an orbital to remove the residue, you should place a white, 100% cotton towel between the pad and the paint, and keep it turned and refolded often so that you are removing the residue with a clean section of towel all the time.

Note: A single orbital pad WILL NOT remove the polish residue from an entire vehicle. You will have smears if you don't use a towel and turn and refold it frequently.

No one said you couldn't use an orbital, it's just that it wastes too much product.

Why is it taking you 2 hours? I can apply Z in about 10 minutes and remove in about 20 minutes.
