Meguiar's Hybrid Ceramic Wax

My daily driver 2017 RDX Elite (same as the Advanced model) has had no paint protection since I bought it new. The water just sits on the paint. On the other end of the scale, it gets maintenance and annual rustproofing to the extreme done by myself.

So I decided to try Meguiar's Hybrid Ceramic Wax and I have to say I am quite impressed. This wax falls into the Consumer line from Meguiar's; I use the Professional line for my Porsches.

My RDX is low mileage (about 15,500 miles) and it sits outside all the time. So I decided to use an iron remover, a clay bar and then the Meguiar's Hybrid Ceramic Wax, with a wash before and after each phase.

By the way, it left a nice finish on the black plastic at the bottoms of our doors and the fake-grills on the front and back bumpers. Bird poop washes off with a spray bottle that I keep handy...pesky birds.

For the initial application, I put down a base coat as described in this Autogeek video. It goes on easy on a wet surface and wipes dry using a microfiber. Subsequent applications are a spray-on to a wet surface and hose off which I have yet to try. I prefer the initial application since it is so easy.

I did the same but used TW ceramic coating on my rdx. It's parked outside all the time as well and I get bird poops too. What spray bottle are you referring to? Is it just water in that bottle and using it to wipe off the poop?

Thanks.

What is that TW ceramic coating? The Meguiar's Hybrid Ceramic Wax is not a coating as the Meguiar's rep puts it. It is not one of those "clear" coats you get in a small bottle and that you apply with a micro-fiber pad and buff off after a few minutes.

Exactly! About 90% of bird poop comes off with just a stream of water from the pump bottle except for the really nasty acidic bird poop. That tells me the wax seems to work well.

By the way, I put a second coat on the car last week, same method as I applied the first coat. Prior to putting it on I washed the car as one should and talk about an ultra-smooth paint finish (I know, I did clay the paint about a month ago).

Next time I'll apply it to the "just washed" paint and use my new pressure washer to spread it out and rinse it off as the Meguiar's video puts it.

Yea so I used the Turtle Wax hybrid ceramic spray coating where you would spray and wipe off with the microfiber towel. They both have the same properties I believe, providing si02 onto the paint to bead water. Just that meguire vs TW as different ways to apply it other than that it looks to be the same.

I'll have to keep a water bottle spray handy now!

Thanks!

I've been using the Turtle Wax wet ceramic stuff. Just Spritz on while the paint is still a little bit wet and wipe it all down and dry. My routine is to hit the dirty car with a little soapy water as it comes out of the tank on my Karcher pressure washer and let it sit for a minute or two. I rinse that off and then I hook up the foam gun and coat it down. The roof the hood and the back of the car are touchless. The wheels and tires get a separate soft brush rub. The front and sides get a light touch with a carrand car wash brush which is really super soft. The carrand brush really sucks up all the sloppy Suds and just works it around beautifully. Rinse all that off and then hit the car all the way around with my handheld blower and get about two-thirds of the water off. Spritz the ceramic wet wax and dry. Total time about 1/2 hour. Right now virtually nothing sticks to the paint but it will be interesting to see how all that wax holds up over the Wisconsin winter when I cannot do this in my driveway anymore.

In my case, it is a friend that snaps it up. And decades later, we're still friends.

I’m 61 and spent a little over an hour hand-washing my 2020 black MDX tonight. I have been using this Meguiars Hybrid Ceramic product and am thoroughly impressed.

a week ago, after a couple rainy days, I took it to one of those self spray places, soaped it, rinsed it then followed with the clear coat treatment rinse (I think that prevents water spots) and drove off. No dry, no physical wash contact, car looked great.

I don't think anyone would expect the Meguiar's Hybrid Ceramic Wax protection to last almost a year, considering it went through winter and is park outside all year long.

I'd say the paint would be at a 2 or 3 out of 10. Strange that it held up well on the windows, almost as if I had just applied something like Rain-X. Same for the plastic trim.

I'll be applying it again in the next few weeks. Too many toys, not enough time. How does Jay Leno do it?
