Porter Cable 7424XP Dual Action Polisher

The polisher is capable of working at faster speeds than the original 7424, which enables the 7424XP to remove more paint imperfections. This more aggressive removal allows you to use the Porter Cable 7424XP Dual Action Polisher for tougher detailing jobs and get optimum results.
• 4.5 –Amp, 450-Watt motor
• 55dB A noise level speed 6
• 2,500 – 6,800 Orbits Per Minute (OPM)
• Variable Speed
• 5/16"(8mm) offset
• Approx $120

Cyclo Polisher

The Cyclo Polisher is the only dual-head polisher on the market. Both heads move in an orbital motion, counter clockwise. The idea is to simulate hand polishing but at a much faster rate. Going over a scratch or swirl with both heads ensures that you are attacking it from all sides, so to speak.
• 115 Volts, 60 Hertz, 220 Watts
• Motor: alternating current, semi-enclosed 24-bar commutator
• Speed: 3000 orbits per minute (OPM)
• Output: 1/3 H.P. (0.25 KW
• Weight: 6.5 lb. (2.9 kg)
• Sound level 77 dB A
• Head Rotation/Diameter: clockwise/4-inch
• Housing: heavy-duty cast aluminium, double insulated
• Approx US$ 300

Flex XC3401V Dual Action Polisher (with forced rotation)

The orbital rotation of this innovative polisher simulates the circular movement of the human hand while polishing. The head also rotates, creating more action than typical orbital’s.
Maximum polishing pad diameter - 6.5 inches (160 mm)
• Velcro pad - 6- inches (150 mm)
• Motor Amps 7.5
• Speed without load – 3,200 - 9,600 OPM plus 160 - 480 RPM direct rotation
• Orbit (stroke length or offset) - 5/16 - inches (8mm)
• Power input - 900 Watt
• Power output - 590 Watt
• Weight - 5.73 lbs (2.60 kg)
• Approx $300

Metabo SXE400 Random Orbital

• Sanding pad size 3 1/8 –inch diameter
• Orbits per minute 5,000-10,000
• Thumbwheel for continuous variation of speed
• Variospeed full-wave electronic speed control
• Orbit size 1/8 offset
• Amps 2.0
• Tool weight 3.3 lbs.

There are two PC 7424XP buffers as I listed above but both have the same model number and appear to have no differences other than the $260 price tag vs the $118 price tag. See the Amazon links.

I guess reading isnt your strong point

one model is the 7424
and the other is 7424xp.
one oscillates up to 6k rpm
and the other oscillates up to 8k rpm

the 7424xp is the one to get.

Also, they are shipped from different distributors. one is offered from amazon direct, and the other has to be shipped from a different company.

remember, reading does wonders

^^ If that is the case and the other is the older model, I wonder why it is more than $100 more than the newer model. Btw, both are sold and shipped from Porter-Cable.

I'm showing that they are both sold and shipped by Porter-Cable! I'm signed into Amazon and have Prime so that may be why.

Reading isn't my strong point

Looks like this is going to be the one that I need than -
Amazon Amazon

Technical Details

-Random-orbit, swirl-free sanding/polishing action
-Electronic variable-speed dial from 2,500-6,800 OPM
-Includes 6-inch proprietary counter balance for use with 6-inch sanding/polishing pad
-Accepts 5/16-inch to 24-inch spindle thread accessories
-Features a 2-position (left or right) removable side handle for greater comfort and control

No backing plate included. What is all this talk of a backing plate and what not?

3 year warranty on Porter Cable vs lifetime warranty on Griots. Plus you're getting the backing plate and 5 pads. The pads are like $10 each.

Well that sounds like a great deal. I planned on getting the pads anyways and then the M105, M205, and Blackfire Wet Diamond sealant.

Everyone recommends the PC buffer for first timers because of it's near fool proof design. Is the Griot's Buffer the same way? Same design and functionality as the PC buffer? Same learning curve? Fool proof?

I have not used the Griots but if it is more powerful than the XP there is a chance it could get a noob in trouble ..

XP was a good step up from the original and I can see where it might cause issues over the original if pushed too hard ..

You should be fine.

The PC XP has a 4.5-Amp, 450-watt motor. The Griots has a 7-amp, 850-watt motor.

Even though the Griots is more powerful, it's still as easy to use as the PC XP, IMO. But if the extra power makes you nervous, still with the PC XP... it's still a great machine.

And after using the griots, i think i should have gone with the flex. There was a thread on the autogeek forum on how hard to took to burn through paint with a flex. Wool pad, on the edges....with a good amount of pressure. If a flex is THAT safe, pretty hard to do damage with something like like the griots.

I have the 7424XP and used the Griot's quite a bit. My pick would be the Griot's since it's more powerful, not as loud at the highest speed, and I find it doesn't bog down as bad using a spot pad in comparison to the 7424XP.

Well I'm about to place a pretty nice sized order. If anyone knows of any current deals or coupons that I can use for a discount or free shipping feel free to let me know

Picking up:
-Griots buffer and base kit
-Blackfire Wet Diamond Sealant
-Meguiars M105
-Meguairs M205
-Optimum Protectant
-Bucket/grit guard
-Waffle Weave microfiber towels
-Optimum No Rinse
-Sonax Full Effect Wheel Cleaner (Does this bring out the black in the tires too? Or just for the rims? If not, any suggestions for a good product to bring out the black in tires would be awesome )

Think that's about it.

Key to black tires is to clean the tires before you apply a dressing .. One of the better tire cleaners I have run ibto is called .. "Awesome " its an all in one cleaner you can get at the Dollar Tree store for a dollar a bottle.

Oh, also need suggestions for how to clean the emblems and around them on the car i.e. the "Acura" and the "TL-S". Lastly, what is a good way to clean the chrome on the car such as front grille?

Adding to my above list:
-Clay
-IronX

Clean tires always before applying tire dressing. I use Prima Nero for tire dressing.

Specific brushes will clean the emblems well.

Which I shall be doing as soon as I find a product/method of cleaning the front grille. Lots of rock chips and grime in it similar to how my bumper is.
