Help finding microfiber towel

A while back there was some post about a big blue microfiber towel that is great to dry your car. Soaks up 3 times it's size in water. I bought 2 of them. Now I need more. I can't find that post. I don't remember where I got them. They are blue, they have a weave patteren & a darker blue border stiching
Anyone have an idea?

I just found a great place for microfiber towels: camping stores. I picked up two beach-towel sized microfiber towels for about $25 CDN at a local camping shop. They had smaller ones for less than $8 that would be more than big enough for drying a car.

Most of the members who frequent this forum prefer MF towels for a number of reasons. High absorption, non streaking and best of all, no scratching.

Ive have a Big Blue, and found it superior to some other waffle weave MF drying towels in terms of softness. Having said that though, I woudln't hesitate to try one from excel. He carries quality products.

Meguiar's makes an ultra plush MF XL towel for buffing that's good. It has satin edges also.

Not all MF products are created equal. I would highly suggest and recommend reading Autopia's article on Microfiber Products. I'm not implying towels from Walmart, Target, Sam's, Costco etc. are crappy but are they of the quality one should be using on a $35K vehicle. Just passing on a some info. There are similar towels available from reputable online sources other than Autopia.

Some time ago I bought a bag of about 20 MF towels at SAM's. There were the hand towel size, not the huge ones......... Great for the little things.

I got mine at costco somthing like $10 for 15 towels. They are handsized though. I use the california blade to get rid of most of the water then use the MF cloth to finish up

Microfiber towels

Sorry for posting the original message in the wrong location... hope I got it right this time!!

Has anyone tried the microfiber towels (14" x 14") from Target? The brand is called "Vroom". The ones I got are the 20 pack for about $12.

Then I found these other ones at Costco today. They are 16" x 16" microfiber towels, yellow in color. I think the company is called Sunset something Incorporated (SNI or something similar). The only thing it says on the outside is that it's ultra soft.... yada yada blah blah.

Just wanted to know if these are quality microfiber towels that aren't so poor they are gonna cause scratches to the paint from the get go.

I know not all MF towels are the same. Worse comes to worse, I can use them for cleaning the dash or wiping the interior where getting scratches aren't an issue.

Any input is welcome,... if not, I'll have to wait and do the mail order thing.

Well after a few uses of the excel towels, I'm sticking to the big blue ones. These excel towels are thin, & don't hold much water. The big blue ones are thicker & hold more water, & work better.
It took 2 of excel's towels to do what 1 big blue towel would do.
I did order some small white micro fiber ones from excel also, & they work very very well for Zaino use. Tons better then the cotton towels.

You'll find those towels get better with each use, and stay soft, unlike the Big Blue. I have the Big Blue, and over time it got so stiff and just uncomfortable to use..........But, to each their own.......

I got the yellow microfiber towels from Costco, and used them to wax my brand new CGP TSX. I made sure the surface was perfectly clean, no water spots, etc., but I believe these towels created many microscratches and swirls all over my flawless brand new paint job. Has anybody else had a bad experience with these?

I'm going to try to clean up the scratches with ScratchX next time I wax (bad idea?), and I'll be sure to use cotton terry cloths instead and see if they do any better.

Thanks for the helpful response. Costco's stuff isn't generally bad, and if it does turn out to be the towels, I can at least return the towels, even though their used. Will ScratchX do the trick?

after reading the autopia info about mf towels and their quality, i stay away from the bargain mf towels just to be safe... i am a firm believer of "you get what you pay for."

I've used the Costco towels and can't say for sure whether or not it caused swirls or microscratches. I always wash them at least twice before using them. I use a dual pile weave (one side has short fibers and the other side has long fibers) towel for buffing. Since I've gotten these, I use the Costco towels as an all purpose towel. See the last post in this thread for online MF purchases.

You might also evaluate your washing and drying technique. Bad techniques as well as improper wash equipment can cause swirls and microscratches. Refer to this thread for Proper Washing Techniques.

The best way to remove any surface defects is by machine. You can do it by hand, but that will require a lot of effort. I would opt for a mild polish or cleanser instead of Scratch X. You also didn't mention what you are using as a last step product (LSP) meaning your sealant/wax. NXT for example has cleaners combined with the wax and can generally clean up your very mild swirls. For most surface defects, the general consensus is to use a polish with diminishing abrasives and then apply a layer of sealant.

Yeah, I've been super careful when washing the car, in terms of avoiding scratches in the process. I've been using NXT as well, and that seems to get rid of the swirls, but only for a day or two after I apply it. The micromarring in my finish is only visible in direct lighting (sunlight is the worst). I think I'll go ahead and get some high quality cotton towels.
