Four Star UPP, set time

How much time is needed for UPP to set and haze before I can wipe it off ? I had some streaking using it in 65 degree
weather.

I waited 20 minutes and I needed to wipe multiple times to remove it all off....worried about inducing some micro marring with the multiple swipes across the surface. Microfiber towel was used for UPP removal.

I do hood/ front fenders then remove .. I have used it in cooler temps than that but your humidity might have been different .

Did you apply it very thin?

Also if you get streaks mist the M/F cloth with distlled water and give it a gentle wipe.

Jesstzn,

I think I applied it thin.....I used about 6 dime sized amounts to do the hood. Also, UPP was applied by
hand using a foam applicator.

Might be too much.. here is what I do ..I use a clean round yellow foam applicator and I put 3 lines of UPP across 1/2 of it and then smear it over the 1/2 to prime the pad using my finger.

That will do 1/2 the hood or better... now that its primed 1/4 of the hood takes less than a dime sized dollop etc etc.

I apply the dollop to the pad then in the 1/4 I'm about to do I dab it in a couple places and starting awat drom tha dabs I work towards them picking up the UPP as I pass over the dabs.

You should be able to do a TL with around an ounce.

Heres a tip I have used over the many years I have used it (That sounds weird)
After your initial wipedown (30 minute min), take the vehicle in the sun for about 10-15 minutes. The warming surface temps and sun will thin the oils out and allow for a more adequate "total" removal.....

+1 more on the using too much. I've found two small dots on a well-primed applicator pad will cover half of the hood properly.

this is something i still have problems with, "determing when the pad is properly primed" seems like alot of the times the dots just go into the pad and not onto the car.

I use a clean round yellow foam applicator and I put 3 lines of UPP across 1/2 of it and then smear it over the 1/2 to prime the pad using my finger. Now it is primed ... I only use 1/2 the pad to apply the UPP. Next I put on a couple of small dots of UPP on the pad and select the 2x2' area I'm going to apply it to then in the center of that area I swipe the pad transfering some of the UPP to the surface. Then I start at the top left of the selected area and apply the UPP really thin to the area . As I get to the place where I swiped the UPP I just keep applying and the pad picks up the UPP ... just keep applying till you don't see any UPP being transfered to the surface.

The best tip, I think< for using UPP is you want to apply just enough to make it visible. If its easily evident you have applied it, you may be using too much. Use just enough to barely notice its presence. An ever so slight film is all thats needed.

i probably use 6 dime sizes drops to do the whole car...you used to much...

now for your set up time....

i do the whole car, then wipe it off...the longer it sits, the more dust will settle on it and that will micro marr the finish...

Only 6 dime sized drops for the ENTIRE car ? Are you pulling my leg ? At this rate, the bottle will last a couple decades .....

I agree about not waiting too long to wipe it off. I live in NYC and I know my car will start to have dust on it in seconds, not minutes.

Seriously, once the pad is seasoned, it takes very little, 1oz is tops!

Well, add another several dots just to season the pad. I usually lay a row of UPP across an applicator (if doing it by hand) fold and squeeze the app in 1/2 to distribute evenly across the surface, then add a few more drops to start sealing with.
I really like using the PC to apply the stuff, its just so quick, and applied very evenly when using the PC. Just my pers. pref.
