Did something stupid....

So i was using some chrome polish i had, Turtle Wax Chrome Polish to be exact, on my Ron Jon Servo's (which make them shine like WOW) but i then decided to try it on the front Acura grille that is chrome PLASTIC I did it so quick and just lightly ran it over the whole thing to then see scratches EVERYWHERE all over it and it even dulled it a little bit. My camera wasn't charged so i can't take a picture but it looks pretty bad. I have NO idea what to use on this to clean it up or hide those marks if its even possible. PLEASE help me guys, it looks really bad....i had a BIG brain fart. I had been out in the sun all day and wasn't thinking right.....

If its the center bar in the grill thats not chrome its a matte painted surface .. If you scratched it the rag your using is also damaging your wheels.

Use a cleaner wax on it to try and remove the chrome cleaner residue .

It is the chrome part, not he matte black part unfortuantely. That is what i thought but it DEF is NOT scratching the wheels! I would see them all over them if i did, they just shine really nice when i'm done! I was also using a freshly washed MF towel too. Wouldn't a cleaner wax maw it worse though due to having more chemicals in it?

^^No ideas Patrick?....lol

Thanks Mach, i'll have to give that a try tonight! I guess it is still looks bad after that i can always sand off the chrome and have it painted to match the car because i'm sure not going to buy new trim, its soo $$$......

If its in fact chrome plated plastic .. TW chrome polish should not have bothered it.

What kind of applicator were you using? I take it we aren't talking about a TL here.

Well it didn't scratch my chrome wheels at all and then i used it on what i thought was chrome on the grille of my 06 TSX, and it scratched the whole thing and even dulled it in spots. I was using a regular MF towel that i have used before and used on my wheels without scratching them. This is what i was using....

Ok I'll back away .. I don't have access to a TSX grill to look at it .. but once again I have used TW Chrome polish on chrome plated plastic without a problem .. Chrome is very hard and even on plastic its harder than its backing.

I have used it without issue on my TLs chrome emblems and many others.

Huh....that is strange. Maybe i will try and different applicator in a small area but i used a different part of the towel to do the same thing and it dulled it there so now i'm confused. What type of applicator do you use?...foam?

So i just called Turtle Wax on my lunch break to ask them about the product and the description on the bottle and such. The lady apologized for what happened and said she would send out a damage claim form to my house and that i would just need to get 2 estimates and they will send some one out to my house to look at it as well. I wasn't trying to blame the product at all but assuming it says "trim" applications as well and used the proper applicator, it shouldn't have scratched right? I guess it can't hurt to have them look at it.....?!?!

you used chrome (metal polish) on plastic.......... Older cars used to have actual chrome metal trim, but everything recently especially grilles are plastic not metal.

Bee-eye-in-gee-oh.
Chrome polishes are much more abrasive then plastic polishes, like PlastX. Try some PlastX or something similiar. Im not even sure the trim on todays car is an actual chrome finish, as opossed to a chrome paint? When I think of "chrome" im thinking of a chrome dip....
BTW, nice gesture on Turtle Wax, thats excellent PR......

Yea, i realized that after i saw the first scratch but i had already wiped almost 75% of it down before they were visible. I acutally went up to Autozone and bought some PlastX and from what i could see by my flash light and garage light, it didn't really do anything at all. I will try it again tomorrow in the light so i can see it better. I guess i will wait and see what happens with the Turtle Wax people although, i read the back of it (too late now though ) and says "not to be used on plastic metalic grilles." SO, guess i will be either using blackout tape on it (cheap mans cover up) or sanding it down and having it painted to match the car. I guess i need to make sure i don't do anything to my car when i have a brain fart huh?.....grrrrrr
