Coming soon.....PC 7424XP

Coming soon.........

The Porter Cable 7424XP Car Buffer and Polisher is a beautifully working tool guaranteed to bring out the very best finish on the most lackluster surfaces, particularly old car or boat. It will throw life onto the dead and dull by operating at an electronic variable speed between 2,500 -- 6,800 OPM (Oscillations Per Minute). But what really sets the Porter Cable 7424XP apart from other similar polishers on the market is not just the price, but more the performance and smoothness. You will be hard pressed to find as good a polisher at such an outstanding price anywhere else. So make the right decision and go with the Porter Cable 7424XP car buffer and polisher for the very best in polishing potential.
Model 7424XP Car Buffer / Polisher
6" polishing pad
Side handle
Wrench
Operating manual
Power: 120 V AC, 50-60 Hz/120 V DC
Amps: 4.5 Amps
No Load Speed: Electronic variable speed 2,500-6,800 RPM
Spindle Thread: Accepts 5/16 - 24
Gear Drive: Spiral Bevel
Wheel Diameter: 6"

Polishing kits will be available as this becomes closer to reality.
Available (estimated) late May 09
Price: not yet determined

I was wondering if there is an update for pricing on this new model. I am holding up my first major order to see if it will be worth it to have the newer model instead of the original.

Some suggestions needed here:

Would you guys wait for the new porter cable polisher for the "extra" features or would the 7424 polisher do just the same job?

Reason why I'm asking is that I was thinking of waiting on the new xp model due sometime in June, but if it does just the same job as the regular model, I don't think it would make any big difference. I don't wanna wait till June just to find out that it's more $$$ for the new model either .

Well I was thinking of selling my old PC after I try out the new one so that I can compare the two. I know specification wise that the new PC draws 0.8 Amps more than the original PC and is faster in random orbits by 800.

I don't know, we'll see how it goes once I get my hands on the machine. I'll be sure to post a comparison review once I've thoroughly tested the new machine.

i really cant imagine the new machine being noticeably different then the old one....but if i was in the market for a new machine i would wait and get it...but i am not getting rid of something that works for something newer...

however, if i were that hot for a new machine, i would get the flex....

Hmm...never heard of this. Could you give me a link and some more info on it? I've been thinking of the PC mainly because there seem to be enough users that if I'd come across any problems with it, I know where to get the help also.

I wouldn't opt for the Flex simply because you can't change the backing plate. It's one of the Flex's downfalls, IMO.

Pretty well the reason I haven't gone that way... and I'm in the market soon.. I have 3 original UDMs and 1 is DOA .. one is having switch issues and one is still going .. but dunno for how long.

If the amp rating on the new PC is any indication if the performance ( and it usually is ) it should be as good as or better than the original UDM with the benifit of a proven orbital system.

I just hope they don't keep pushing the release date right out of the detailing season up here.

D, you know what works nice is having one set up for polishing and one set up for sealants!

Having different PC/UDM setups does sound like a good idea.
