Carwash Frequency Question.

Hey guys,

I was just curious how often you all wash your car? Since I've gotten hooked on the ONR stuff, I've been washing my car about 2 times a week. I wouldn't normally wash it that often, but living in the Chicago area, you kind of have to. Anyway, I was just wondering if that's too frequent? I keep my car waxed (FS UPP), and I've been toping it lately with Dodo Purple Haze wax.

Also, I'm SERIOUSLY considering getting a BMW 335 XI (black with black leather). Am I really crazy for buying a black daily driver? Also, how hard is it to work on BMW paint vs. Acura's?

Lastly, has anyone ever driven a BMW (newer 3 series)? If so, what were there thoughts/impressions? I really like them a lot (exterior wise), but I think the interior has a lot to be desired. Anyway, I was just wondering what anyones experience is with BMW's, or BMW clients - do they have a lot of complaints about the car?

Thanks much!

Jeff

BMW paint, generally, is pretty hard versus Acura paint. I usually wash my car every weekend if I'm lucky.

As far as BMW's go, they're ok vehicles. We've had two BMW's ('89 525i & '99 328i) that have had surging engines, it's kind of hard to explain. Other than that, they're pretty solid cars but I've never had any issues with my Integra, especially nothing as serious as a surging engine.

Depending on the weather, once or twice a week. If it's rainy or otherwise sucks, I'll wait until it improves.

Wow.......lots of ????
  1. I may wash my car once per month. Twice per week is overkill in my opinion and will increase your chance to induce swirls and scratches.
  2. The metallic black BMW paint may be hard but the Jet Black BMW paint is notorious for being soft and a pita to keep looking good. Research some of the other detailing forums.
  3. Deciding if a daily driven black car is worth it is entirely up to you. I ask myself questions like "How far do you drive?", "Do you park ouside or in a garage?", "If you drive on the freeway do you want rock chips or do you want to invest in a clear bra?", "Are you willing to perform DAILY MAINTENANCE to minimize dirt and frequent washings?
  4. As far as BMW vs ACURA I believe ACURA is a far better value. BMW can not compete with ACURA dollar for dollar on a comparable fully optioned vehicle.

Thanks for all of the replies guys!

After a lot of thinking, I think I'm just going to hold onto my paid off 07 TSX for now. If anything, I will upgrade to a new TL SH-AWD. I didn't realize how ridiculously expensive BMW's got when you have to pay for every little option. Plus, after reviewing other forums, I've realized that they're pretty costly once they're out of warranty.

Thanks again, guys!

Anywhere drome 1 to 3 times a week .. my wash routine is very good and then car doesn't get that dirty so Ihave never had swirling problems.

ONR is a very good product but the nature of the beast might leant towards swirling if your using it a lot on a very dirty car.

I (try to) wash my NBP once per week. It gets dirty after 10 minutes, so I've just learned to accept it otherwise I'd be washing it daily! Having a black DD is definitely a challenge to those with serious OCD issues like myself.

And for BMW's...Jet Black is stupid-soft, and is one of the most challenging paints to maintain and to correct. Sapphire Black (metallic) is a different story...very hard cc like most Bimmers.

Every other weekend... every week if i'm lucky. Car gets pretty dirty/dusty/pollenated after the first week. My commute is 100 miles a day for work all highway... as dirty as my car can be it's still super shiny LSP wo0!!

Same here for me but it's at least 500 miles a week for me. I'm lucky to wash it every other week but since it's so well maintained, I only really have to do ONR washes unless I feel like playing with foam.

They do, but I don't like how the police it. If you want to take the car in for preventive maintenance, they won't do it if the car's maintenance minder doesn't say it needs it.

I wash it randomly. I like to wait until there is a long span of good weather before I wash it and detail some.

Quite the situation! I just drove home from school in the rain. I even thought of ONRing my car this morning... glad I didn't.

After you have perfected the paint, since its a black car, i would spend the extra cash and get a clear bra for the front of the car, so you don't get those ugly white, scratches and chips from road debris

also i've havent owned one before, but the e92 twin turbo 335...i love em. i road in my friends ci, ride was nice interior was good and the engine is great too. i know acura/honda are more reliable...but i would love to have a 335.
